Why is chief wearing a robe? He has full mjolnir on and is fully protected from the sand, this seems rather redundant and only seems like there are trying to evolve chief into an more deep ominous role. But seriously why?

Blend in better with terrain? Not be immediately identifiable? Conceal identity for dramatic reveal at live event?

The cracked visor at least is warrant enough to cover up.

That’s plausible but incredibly silly when you think about it.
Do you really think 343 would have their baby walk out looking like a fool with just his gloves and helmet? (boots too if i remember correctly)
Initially I was convinced that it was a non-canon trailer just to announce Halo’s forthcoming arrival to the Xbox One, with the reason of the robe being to surprise the fans.
I am thinking otherwise now, but it’s all mixed and confused.
