I apologize if this subject has been previously hashed out. If so, I haven’t found it. I just read Ghosts of Onyx and am at a loss as to where the Spartan IIIs in Halo: Reach, the game, came from unless they were survivors from Alpha Company, who would be around 26 years old during the fall of Reach. We’re told in Ghosts of Onyx that they died to the last Spartan. There is no way they were a part of Bravo or Gamma Companies, around 19 and 12 years old respectively. So where did they come in at? If there is a source that attempts to rectify this conflict (kind of like a Star Wars “fix it” to match the new direction we want to take)please pass it on to me. I would hate to think that Bungie attempted to sabotage Halo’s continuity with Halo: Reach’s storyline, but 343 seems to be using Traviss’s ongoing trilogy as a venue to flesh out what’s going to go on in Halo 4. Again, if this has all been explained elsewhere then I apologize and this post is for naught.
I read something about this in Kat’s bio on halopedian last night
The ones in Noble team were singled out before PROMETHEUS and TORPEDO, since Kurt and Mendez thought they had some serious potential and didn’t want them to be wasted on one of those big suicide missions. Hence, they were formed into Noble team and given proper Mjolnir Mk. V-b (V-b’s a cut-down version of the regular V).
Thanks for the info. Where can I read it?

This should help.

Thanks. Haven’t seen that info. So I assume the rest of Noble Team were pulled out of Beta Company too, and they would all have been around 19 years old. Yikes.

You can tell what company they were pulled from by their Spartan ID. Commander Carter for example is Spartan A259. The A in A259 stands for “Alpha.” This means that Emile A293 and Jun A266 are also of Alpha Company. Noble Six is Spartan B312 and Kat is B320 so they are from Beta Company.
Well, they all died anyway. Also, the Other Spartans at the end of Halo: Reach… They’re supposed to be S-III, but… is there a way to know what were they doing there?

There is no canon explanation but they could easily just be from “Gauntlet” or “Echo” teams which Jun mentioned earlier in the game. They could just as easily be Easter Eggs as well since they’re appearance chances with each play through.
to my knowledge there is no clarification on why their ages don’t match up.

All that’s really known about them is that they’re meant to represent dead Spartans. They simply use the same armour out of convenience. It’s likely that they’re meant to be some of the SIIs that died on Reach.
The members of Noble Teams were pulled out of their respective companies before the missions took place. Noble six was used as a personal grim reaper for ONI and tested the Sabres.

Perhaps they were just too good genetically to pass up? Perhaps ONI was hoping some older children could serve as mentors to the younger ones? So may routes to look at, just nothing solid.

Cryo is the first thing that comes to mind.

Cryo Age is a commonly accepted side effect of the process and as such isn’t all too important. The previous posters are referring to their chronological age and their differences with the majority of other Alpha and Beta Spartans.

I believe that they didn’t all come at the same age so some of them were just older to start off with.

I meant they could chronologically be whatever age they are but due to time in Cryo they are biologically younger.
What exactly is the problem with their ages?
> What exactly is the problem with their ages?
The original reason for this post was an apparent conflict between the ages of the Spartan IIIs in Ghosts of Onyx and ages of Noble Team’s Spartan IIIs. In Ghosts of Onyx, the ONLY (according to that book) surviving Spartan IIIs were Tom and Lucy, 19 years old, and Sabre Team, 12 years old. The conflict seems to be rectified by the Bungie info that Nihilus Shadow so graciously posted above, which I have reposted below. In short, Noble team was pulled out of the general population of the Spartan III trainies before the suicide missions that killed the rest of their companies took place. So, Kat and Noble Six would’ve been around 19 years old and Carter, Jun, and Emile were all 26 years old during Halo: Reach.

Actually, the armor in Reach is indeed the regular MJOLNIR Mk. V, the V is just a helmet. The Mark V we see in CE is probably the variant that comes with the ability to house an Artifical Intelligence, which explains why Six couldn’t have simply inserted the Cortana chip in Halo: Reach. I know it’s hard to see (I only spotted it when I got a new HDTV), but the crystal chip is inside of the cylinder that Halsey gives you.
