In the latest halo book, glasslands, it is confirmed that while spartans are in cryostasis their armour upgrades via nanotechnology. It states that fact in relation to the Mark VII armour, but the only confirmed upgrades to the Mark VII from the Mark VI (which chief is wearing) is detailed in halseys journal which says nothing about a change to nanoupgrading, so that means that the Mark VI “should” have that ability. I stress SHOULD.
That, in my irraprochable oppinion, explains why Master Chiefs armour was different (in the halo 4 teaser) than it had been at the end of halo 3, when master chief put himself in cryo aboard the Forward Unto Dawn.
““hey, you know that suit maintains and upgrades itself when she’s in cryo? It’s all nanotech.””
(quote from page 213, chapter 9, of Halo: Glasslands. ODST comenting on Naomi-010’s spartan armour, Mark VII.)
These are the confirmed upgrades for the mark VII armour from the mark VI, notice that nanotech upgrading is not an upgrade(halo.wiki):
■Next-gen fusion-plasma hybrid power system.
■Atmospheric insertion systems.
■Slipspace de-insertion capability.
■Active AI transfer protocols.
■Limited shaping of the energy shield (partial overlaps, airfoils etc.).
I think the nanotech may use the cryotube itself to replave armour parts; like a car assembly line, but in freezing cold temperature and more compartementalized.
> Except, you know, Chief doesn’t have the same armor as Naomi.
I know she is a Spartan II. I can’t get on halopedian to confirm whether her armour is the same, but to my knowledge she wears the same armour as was issued to MC.
> I heard that only one SII had this armor and that its the mark VII which chief does not have. Besides, Franky said that the teaser was non canon.
I remember him saying it was non-canon, but i presume that they are still changing the armour. They have talked extensively about the crotch piece being taken away. Where did you hear that there was only one SII with that armour. Please, cite your source so as to limit speculation.
Where is your evidence that both Chief and Naomi have the same armor? You would think this nanotech deal would’ve been mentioned in past Halo games or books.

They don’t, as confirmed by Halo.Wiki.
I just found that article. It is however confusing, because it doesn’t confirm that the Mark VI, worn by MC, doesn’t have the Nanotech Upgrading system. It only confirms the upgrades from Halseys Journal:
■Next-gen fusion-plasma hybrid power system.
■Atmospheric insertion systems.
■Slipspace de-insertion capability.
■Active AI transfer protocols.
■Limited shaping of the energy shield (partial overlaps, airfoils etc.).
So I will edit my original post to explain that to include this information. Govader, I am trying to figure this out with facts. You iron out mine Govader, and I’ll iron out your’s; if you have any that is.

I did not say that 343 said they were not changing the armor, just that the trailer is not how the canon will go, hell probably get the new armor sometime after exiting cryo.
I got the only one spartan has it thing from several people on this forum, apparently the only spartan with that armor is named Naomi or something like that. I read this from several posts.

Thank you for responding. In Glasslands it is confirmed that Naomi has a different armour (mark VII), but it is only confirmed that her armour has small differences from johns, the NANOTECH Upgrade ability isn’t listed as a difference.

So basically, we get to phase out of Slipspace, land (not crash) in a planet from orbit, send Cortana over intergalactic WiFi, and turn our shields into a hang-glider.

> Anyway, interesting, OP… interesting… I could see nanotech repairing the suit, but I think upgrading it is a bit far fetched.
How could that be far fetched? If the nanotech program fixes the armor, that means it has to make changes to the surfaces right? So who’s to say that within the programing there isnt a file for an upgrade?
It probably isn’t in Halsey’s journal as it wasn’t made by Halsey. I believe it’s been said that the graphics used in the trailer do not represent that of the actual game, however they did say there was a reason why he lost his codpiece.
