Concerns with Halo4

Truthfully, I like Halo 4. It looks like Halo 3 with a lot more added, and that could be good, it’s just that some things are making me (and most likely others) a little worried.

And no, this isn’t going to be me saying that we should go back to arena style gameplay, (even though I’d like to). These are actual concerns within the game right now.

So, let’s start.

Grenades
Now, as we all know (and maybe some of you don’t. Learn ya some) the grenades in Reach were terribly overpowered. They had no bounce (something that made Halo3’s fantastic), they had huge blast radius, and combined with Reach’s slow movement, created horrendous gameplay with grenades requiring very little skill if at all.

The grenades in Halo 4 should be more akin to 3’s than Reach’s. I don’t think that can really be argued, I’m just wondering if 343 has said anything about this.

While on this topic however, I would like to talk about the resupply perk. It really has no place being there. You shouldn’t need a perk to replenish your grenades. I know you can still pick them up of the map, but who knows how plentiful those will be. And that also brings up another potential problem, if there are a lot of grenades on the map, will explosions still make them explode?

As it currently stands, the player who kills the other (the better player) will have no grenades after killing his opponent, and the player who dies (bad player) respawns and will have his or hers replenished. How does that make sense?

One could argue that we should just use that perk, but that means we don’t get to make use of the armor perk slot. And for what? Because we can stay alive longer?

Weapon Drops
Now these actually seem like a cool idea. But, with news of the armor mods revealing one of them having a “re-roll” perk, this means that they will be random. That’s really, really bad. That means One player could get his five kills and get a rocket launcher, but then the other could get a needler. How is that fair? I know you get three choices, but still. I feel like it would be better if you could just pick your three choices beforehand while creating your class.

Ranking System
Supposedly, there is supposed to be a trueskill system in place. That’s great, huge improvement from Reach. However, there has been talk that it will be invisible. This is just plain dumb. Why would you do this? Part of the enjoyment of ranking up in Halo 3 was having it next to your name. You could show it off and compete with your friends, opponents, whomever. It was fun, and making it invisible takes some of that fun away. And let’s be honest, if it’s visible only to you, people can just tell other people, etc. What does doing this really accomplish? People’s feelings not getting hurt?

Anyway, these are just a couple of my concerns. The game looks great and I can’t wait to play. Hopefully it will be a good as the original trilogy. It’s already surpassed the embarrassment that was Reach.

I agree with you on the grenades. Not being able to pick up grenades from dead bodies unless I have a special ability is just stupid.

The re-roll perk is iffy. I don’t really like the specializations but I haven’t played the game so they might turn out to be a nice addition.
Picking your choices in your loadout? No thanks. Everyone will be running around with a rocket launcher held in reserve. How would that make for good gameplay.

Maybe the ranking system will be invisible in some playlists and visible in others? If there’s a ranked set and a social set, like in Halo 3.

Also, I have to disagree with you Reach was an embarrassment comment. I happen to love Reach but that’s a matter of preference. You also have no way of knowing that Halo 4 is better until you’ve played it.

It could be the worst of the series, you know…
