Concerns of a Halo Fan...

Hello everyone. I want to try and address some issues that I find troubling in the current day Halo community and present day videogame communities as well. I have noticed the segregation of our once tight-knit community, through game settings and desires for the future of the franchise, and I feel it has become an issue that is causing Halo to lose part of its charm and why I loved it in the first place. To me Halo is a social experience, a community experience and game experience that is almost magical. I am concerned some of the new features in H4, will further segregate the community and threaten the overall unique social experience of playing Halo.

I feel that Halo works best as a simple game. Its why many of us reference and revere HCE because it was the embodiment of simple fun. The game model that I feel Halo needs to retain is one dominant game setting and no segregation from new players to veteran players. I feel some of the features in Halo 4 will only further divide new players and veteran players through progression systems in which inevitably new players will be missing out on the whole Halo experience. No longer will you be able to invite you’re buddies over and just hop in and play and be able to fully relate to their game experience, they might be a noob and still not have many of the weapons/abilities unlocked while you being a veteran will be able to experience more of the game than they will.

In between re spawns, you will not be able to throw a piece of pizza at you’re friend when he no-scopes you or gives you the big sauce, everyone will be re-spawning as fast as possible to get back into the action as quick as possible. There wont be any celebratory tea-bags or classic Halo reflection moments of “OH -Yoink- did he really just do that to me?” because you will be pressured to re-spawn as quickly as possible and thrown into the action.

I fear that the game will stop being fun and become frustrating with everyone running around spamming the camo AA, or people jetpacking on top of soft kill zones and everyone running around the map like frenzied rats in a frenzied quest to contest someones ordinance drop, only to have that player feel cheated that his teammate robbed him of his reward.

I will re-state this again for emphasis I have always felt that Halo works best as a simple and straightforward shooter, and that the human element is undeniably what sets it apart for me from the other shooters where noone has a mic, or everyone is just trying to K/D -Yoink!- and get as many kills as possible so they can get to the next “level”.

I dont want to bash these new features, because obviously they have been successful in other video game franchises and some of them sound really cool but to me that isnt why we play Halo. The Halo experience has always been a social and team experience that brought us together with friends, I feel some of these new features are contradictory to the unique Halo experience that I and many others want to preserve and long for. We dont want Halo to turn into a “one-stop shop” to grind levels and be overwhelmed by frustrating player abilities, we want it to be the simple and fun game that brought us all together in the first place and have that experience be one that you can share equally with you’re buddies. So please 343, keep in mind of preserving the special experience of Halo in between the players and the game its the magic of Halo and why this game is so special to many of us.

“Insert witty phrase here” for shameless bump =)

Well fear all ya want just don’t judge the game till youv played it.

You do know that the instant respawns is a choice? 343 didn’t get rid of the regular respawn timers.

The old way is still in. Except this is how it will work.

Instant respawn but you don’t get to change your loadout

Regular spawn and you can change/tweak your loadouts in game.

All the things that u’ve said are bad about halo 4 have hardly been explored at all. Though there is no reason why I can’t go in to detail why your wrong. first, the progression system in halo 4 will not be like spawning with a power weapon, only mainstream weapons like the dmr, br, assault rifle, pistol, pp, plasma rifle and other weapons that you can already easily find lying around the map. I’m guessing the main reason for this progression system is to make you feel rewarded or make it feel like it’s your player that’s you’ve made, and i’m looking forward to it. next, the rush to get the “ordinances”, if you haven’t noticed it happens in all the other halos except they spawn in the same place which is totally against your argument of new players against veterans! 3rd NOT HAVING ENOUGH TIME TO THROW A PIZZA? really… in the other halos you had a 5 second timer, in halo 4 you will choose when you respawn so i don’t see how you will not have enough time to throw a pizza but will in the other halos? I’ve nearly pissed my self because of that 5 sec timer and i’m sure i’m not alone… Next the AAs are not gonna be spammed, I’m sure 343i will of course have jet pack in mind when they make these maps but what does it matter if some one in a jet pack can go somewhere, where you can’t. If he/she can shoot you, you can shoot him/her. I really don’t know what you meant with the active camo so…? last, you talked about being a K/D -Yoink!- to get to the next “level” I’m not sure if you have played the halos, but levels or ranks are in nearly all the halos if not all so wtf are you talking about.

So in conclusion, what the heck are you talking about? and yes most of these features have been successful in previous games, some of them being HALO!!

It’s a lost cause dude. Casuals who have no idea how to play halo are the vast majority now, especially on these forums. Halo will continue to add ridiculous features recycled from other casual games. Halo is dead. Black ops 2 will probably be better.

I need to play the game before I can say anything further. It might not be as bad as people make it out to be if we actually play it.

This

Yeh TTress halo has died and by “halo” I mean the soul that defined the game andthat halo stood for. TO be honest it started in Halo 2, but alot of H2s problem can be ignored and chalked up to the necessary changes to make the game playable on XBL on a large scale.

But I say dont worry. If H4 is another reach, which it is looking to be Reach 1.5, it will flop since you dont just conger up a game with the replay value of CE-3 out of your butt. Games like that and COD4 are accidental flukes. Activision knows this, hence why they never change. They get flamed but notice how sales an population only go up?

The point im trying to make is that when this game fails, and if history shows it is likely to, H5 will revert back to the old style of gameplay because lets be honest. The only reason one should buy an xbox over a PS3 is halo. And halo is the MArio of xbox so if halo truly falls lower than reach, it is likely we will see a revert when xbox 720 comes out or a H2 anniversary.

For now times are tough, but the future is bright. If these new features blow on the scale reach did lets hope this game sinks like a lead zeppelin.
