Concerns About Credits

I apologize if this is already being discussed in other threads, but I do feel compelled to throw in my two cents here.

So, I’m having a blast with Halo Infinite so far. I honestly haven’t had this much fun with a video game in a long time. The gameplay is solid, the maps are nice (and pretty!), and I love playing around with all the customization options (even if I haven’t unlocked a lot of armor pieces yet). The Battlepass and overall progression system feels maybe a little slow, but I do understand that this will be rectified at some point after release, so that doesn’t bother me. However, there is one little thing that concerns me: unless I am mistaken, there is no way to earn Credits through playing the game- the only way to get them is to buy packs of Credits in the store using real money. If this really is the case, why bother with an in-game currency at all? If we gotta fork over cash for stuff anyway, why have this extra hoop to jump through?

I understand that Infinite’s multiplayer is free-to-play, so the studio does need some kind of monetization so that they can make a profit. I also understand that this is an open beta, and that some features are missing or disabled until December 8th. I am also conscious of the possibility that I may be completely mistaken, and that there could be some way to earn Credits through gameplay that I am just unaware of (if so, do please tell me what I’m missing). But if I’m not wrong, it doesn’t feel right to have an in-game currency which players cannot earn through playing the game. It doesn’t strike me as being very player friendly. Even Halo 5 and those REQ-Point things.

Since the progression system is being reworked after the game’s proper release, I do hope that this will be one of those things that gets re-examined and hopefully changed. I am loving Halo Infinite so far, but this one thing does concern me a little.
