Concerning Gamer Etiquette in the Community

AKA We’re all people stop being jerks to each other (shishnos[RvB joke])

One thing I’ve noticed here on the Halo 5 forum more than any other forum I’ve visited is a complete lack of any form of politeness. Everyone’s flaming, everyone’s arguing, no one’s really making valid responses to debates. Now, there are some people whom I do respect. Doctor Halsey (formerly DecipticonCobra) is good about giving reasons for what he/she says, and doesn’t disagree with things by saying “You are an idiot. I am right because I am right”

Other than a few people, I find that everyone doesn’t civily debate, openly flames, and acts immaturely. Cmon people! The Halo Community is a Community.

We’re all strangers, but we’re here because we love Halo. So let’s be polite to each other fer crying out loud! I mean really, why in Sam hill would you flame another player? Or scorn everyone? Or troll? Or just dismiss those you disagree with? Or be a team killer, like Caboose (ok, that’s unrelated. ignore it)?

The point it, let’s all show some respect for each other. If we’re gonna argue, let’s do it in a civilized manner. Let’s not make the Halo community look terrible.

Wut the h? Lol?
Anyways concerning the topic op, people arn’t so mean to each other. There are plenty of nice people around here, and the mods really help clean up any problems that get out of hand. But if your judging by the recent memoris of falcon war, your looking at the wrong point in time, it’s generally not a bad place.

I miss the trash talking in the halo 3 days

Teabagging isn’t a big deal and that game was just 343 members having fun.

OT: I completely agree which is why I usually stay away from these forums because it is exactly as you state, flame wars, trolling, etc. It gets kind of old after awhile. You’re very optimistic so I’ll hope we can see the forums be a decent place to go for ALL Halo fans. (Keyword: ALL).

I thought this was about multiplayer matchmaking etiquette LOL. Mods shouldn’t have to be constantly cleaning up people’s words.
Yes we should be civilized people, but everyone gets caught in the heat of the moment.

Not just the Falcon wars. I’m remembering things way before falcon wars

It’s because a large portion of posters haven’t had to conduct themselves respectfully in real life yet, and with the wall of anonymity the internet provides, they can let loose with absolutely zero consequence. With nothing to lose and no real world social strategies to draw from let the rrrRRAAGE commence :stuck_out_tongue:

The flaming was way worse back in 2012. That said, it hasn’t come close to going away. You make a good point OP, but I don’t think anything is going to change any time soon.

I think a major problem is that people are so swept up in their own viewpoints they refuse to consider those of people they might disagree with. It’s easier to call someone a whiner/crybaby or a delusional fanboy than have a conversation. And of course the people who are constructive are just drowned out by fighting despite calls for constructive feedback. I’m no saint, but I try.

One more for the counter.

^ this is what happens in a nutshell

BTW, on a completely random note, when you on your twitter mention bing in the 501st legion, are you referring to the charity organization of star wars cosplayers? if so, you guys rock!

I read most forum posts on a daily basis and it really does annoy me how most people react when others do not share their opinion even when it’s a flawed one. Might even say a lot of people are toxic.

I also read most of the forum posts daily. I just think people need to be a little more supportive even if they don’t have the problem the person is describing or having with the game… That also goes with ones point of view in things about the game. Show a little respect to your fellow Spartans… Its not really that hard and goes along way!

but a lot of it is all in fun though

You do realise it is humans in these forums? A species that quite frankly has a very poor record when it comes to working together and being nice to one another. You may as well tell a tiger not to have its stripes. Though as a community Halo is much less cancerous than CoD and BF. We can spell and everything. People here generally are just very passionate about the universe which leads to the most seen argument equation on these forums

  1. 343 screws us over in some way (for example removing playable elites) > people get annoyed and get angry > fanboys defend 343 > people retaliate to fanboys

  2. 343 does something it needs to do (for example nerfing or buffing a weapon) > Haters start hating > normal people defend 343 > haters retaliate

Moral of the story, dont fanboy over 343 or be a hater.

Just do what I do and apply humour.
Being aggressive on forums with someone who has a different opinion or viewpoint on a topic is just tiring and quite frankly pointless.
While there will always be varying opinions on something we could at least compromise and accept the fact that not everyone will agree with each on the same thing.

To be fair, alot of people feel that if you say that 343 hasn’t ruined halo you are a fanboy.
