Not gonna lie, Halo 3 had it right. Each map pack came with a small, medium, and Large map to make the community happy (Aside with Cold Storage which was an amazing freebe). I think this idea should be mimicked in the next halo.
I agree
Wasn’t just the maps that made people happy, it was the fact that you could also play them in matchmaking.
That’s why I believe we should go back to Halo 3’s system of exclusive playlists. If you don’t have the maps, you’re stuck with the standard playlists.
Why should the people who are paying extra have to constantly play the standard maps because one person in the game refuses to buy the DLC?
Don’t mimic the stupid idea that most playlists require DLC, I stopped playing Halo 3 because of it, when ODST was released I was done with multiplayer as a whole and have only just started again because I like Halo 4

Gotta pay to play. I didn’t mind the restrictions. It allowed me to play what I paid for more consistently.

I know my solution to a lot of stuff is “make a playlist” but we could separate it, say Social Big Team have that and Social Big Team DLC, so people can play a gametype without DLC and people who have the DLC can play DLC, it seems like a cheap tactic making half the playlists DLC required so you have to get the DLC to play good gametypes
I agree.
Reach was terrible because I have bought all the maps but I barley ever got to play them in matchmaking since not many people had them.
Saying that I spent 30 extra dollars within Limited Edition for the War Games Map Pass, I’d say that I better get to play what I paid for!

And in Halo 3 I didn’t play it because all the good playlists were DLC required, I really think they need DLC and Regular playlists like BTB and BTB DLC

Completely redundant doing that when you can do implement a search restriction to guarantee you will match up with DLC owners (Halo 3 & Reach had this for Skill, Language & Good Connection, it needs to return.)
Some, but not all, ranked playlists should require DLC. Halo 3’s system was best. No separate DLC playlists imo, they just segregate people too much, Social shouldn’t REQUIRE DLC, but a few major playlists in ranked should.
I know I will get flamed but way back when I liked Call of Duty. CoD World at War had a playlist were is was strictly DLC only. Didn’t matter if it was the first one, second, or third. All the maps were put into that playlist. Now the regular playlist could play DLC if everybody had them all. That is one option that could be explored and the only CoD feature that could/should be in Halo…
I don’t think Halo has ever had good DLC tbh. I know its a shooter but just maps for DLC kinda lame tbh. Give us some more juicy stuff like an extra campaign mission guns that where in campaign and not in game.

I’d much prefer SpOps DLC

I believe Halo 3 had this.
Personally I belive that standard map packs DLCs are over. With around 100000 players online (now only in CoD games…) this system is somehow working, but now DLC maps appears so rarely there is no point for buying them.
I think 343i should follow DICE at this one. Games like Battlefield have more complex DLCs not only with new maps but with new vehicles, weapons etc. Each one is actually another game within the game. Just imagine “Elite DLC” with 5 all new purple-oriented maps, with playable Elites in Invasion, or “Heavy DLC” where you can fly in Pelican. Each of them with it’s own, full-time, separate playlist. It should be at least that scale.
Here’s a thought folks and hear me out…
With Microsoft’s reversal on the DRM policy for the XBOX One, what if they considered making anything that isn’t CAMPAIGN in their exclusive titles DLC?
For instance, imagine the next Halo game being campaign only. Then to play multiplayer you have to BUY that separately as DLC.
I can see this as a way for developers (not just MS, but Sony and 3rd parties) making more money. Want to buy the game, sure, you get CAMPAIGN. Want those multiplayer experiences though, you have to pay EXTRA for it. And of course don’t expect games to become cheaper due to that. Both MS and Sony know we consumers are now used to the $60 per game pricepoint, so that will stay.
So what would this mean? Well, those who buy games only for campaign would still have that. But those of us (and I’d say it’s the majority of gamers) who buy for multiplayer/matchmaking) we’d have to shell out more money. Since this can ONLY be sold as new, places like Gamestop wouldn’t be able to undercut the developers. Gamestop would still get money from initial sales of games and a little bit from resale, but the larger portion would go to the developers. Even if Gamestop were to sell CODES for multiplayer in games, it’s still that initial sale in a sense. So again, the devs would get more money.

Agreed, with each new map pack of both Halo 4 and Halo Reach, I knew the previous achievements that required a specific map would be impossible without cheating.
I also didn’t like the fact that we knew about ALL 3 DLC packs like 2 months after the release of H4.

Why should people who have paid good money for the full product be excluded from certain features just because they don’t want to/can’t afford to buy the new maps?

Just make it a search option. For example:
Vanilla Maps [Yes]
Heroic Map Pack [No]
Legendary Map Pack [No]
Mythic Map Pack [Yes]
Mythic Map Pack 2 [Yes]
Forged Maps [No]
