Concerned with the future of this game

While there are many things myself and the community see and love about halo infinite there’s a great deal of concern when it comes to the monetization of this game. First off, armors, colors, and emblems that have always been free and unlocked by gameplay are now locked behind a pay wall. Mcc has been out for 6 years now and we’re still getting regular free content updates that you unlock through gameplay and gameplay alone. Even new original armors introduced in season mythic still free, you want to charge 10 dollars for reach armors that we’ve had for a decade now? I just want to know how you guys can justify this, will there be a way to get the battlepasses without spending money? I understand that multi-player is going free to play but you’re also charging 60 dollars for an incomplete full copy (no co op, no forge) my son and I have played through every single campaign together and we’re so disappointed that we won’t be able to play together for at least 3 months after launch. We see all the great things that you are doing with this game but there’s several things that you need to prioritize before you start worry about monetizing the -Yoink!- out of this game.

Don’t worry too much.

I do also hope we can earn our way to the battlepass without spending money at first. I’m hoping it’s a system where you have to get enough free credits throughout a season or two to finally buy the pass, but then have enough credits throughout the season (with the pass) to continuing to keep purchasing the battlepass.

Believe me they have to put a balance, possibly season one defines its concept and strategy well.

I’m pretty sure this game is in good hands. We’ll see how things go! :grinning:

I personally wouldn’t care if they locked every customization option behind a $100-per-cosmetic fee and didn’t leave any free customization options at all. As long as the gameplay is never affected in any way by microtransactions, I’m happy.

You said it yourself, the multiplayer is free to play. Emblems weren’t free before, they were locked behind a $60 pay wall, as was all the customisation. You’re also going to be getting plenty of free customisation through the event passes, fracture passes and capstone rewards, as well as a few items on the free battle pass track. I don’t think you need to worry, nor do I think it’s particularly justified.

We will likely get free content along with paid content as well. I think it will be a bit similar to Destiny 2, where we can purchase seasons and complete them. You can also complete the seasonal story without purchasing the season pass but miss out on some of the items.

There will be free content yes, from things like the Capstone Challenges and in-game events. And I’m pretty sure the battle pass will have free rewards as well

Do you need Xbox live to play Halo Infinite Multiplayer??

¿¿Necesitas Xbox Live para jugar al multijugador de Halo Infinite??

I have my own concerns as well, far too many to list. But let’s just say community discourse isn’t helping the matter in the slightest. Once I suggested being able to change the Shade turret colors in forge for MCC, only to be told it was more trouble than it was worth, even if it was literally just repainting a few textures.

No, which is also something to consider when talking about the yearly expense. If Halo happens to be the only game you play (granted this is somewhat unrealistic) you will actually be saving $20 per year while still buying every battle pass.

In the interview with IGN they confirmed that there will be both paid content and free content. These paid content will be divided between the in-game store and the battle pass. They also confirmed that in the battle pass itself there will be free content for those who are unlocking the pass but without actually buying it.

MCC is a paid game in itself, with content from more than 10 years ago, that is why its passes are free. On the other hand, Halo Infinite MP is completely free and therefore must have a monetization system, which in this case will be exclusively cosmetic with nothing that provides playable advantages. I see it understandable and justified that such monetization exists.

If we want this game to last 10 years we must accept this. In addition to the fact that there is a difference between canon and non-canon content, designers have creative freedom with the potential to bring us incredible things. I fully support the decision made by 343.

No. They aren’t. The fundamental issue in your argument is assuming that customization is locked behind a pay wall, when it really isn’t. Unlike Halo 5, customization is once again tied to progression. Yes, part of this progression involves paying ten dollars for a battlepass for better cosmetics, but its not the only path.

You’ll need an Xbox account but you won’t need Gold

I’m not concerned about the monetization aspect. My biggest gripes are the time-sensitive events and region-locked promotions. The game isn’t even out yet and these have already been handled terribly.

I wouldn’t be concerned.

You got all the base colours for your armour and everything else is just adding additional options. Even just in this first season there seems to be a lot of armour options and stuff like the custom AI is amazing.

With Xbox Gamepass youre basically getting the game as part of your subscription. If you don’t have gamepass well games tend to go on sale so you can probably pick it up cheap around Christmas.

They added a ton of stuff into Halo 5. Forge, firefight, custom browser along with a metric ton of REQ weapons and maps. Consider that they did that for, much as I liked Halo 5, not the most popular multiplayer game and you have to wonder what they have planned for Halo Infinite. If they’re serious about this being a live service app to draw in Gamepass subscribers then they kind of have to. If it’s a hit, then that’s only going to hatchet up.

You answered your own question. MCC is is a full-price game, Halo Infinite multiplayer is free so they have to make a profit somehow. That is taking the form of the most consumer-friendly system in any game I can think of right now. I really wouldn’t get upset about what is overall the best-case scenario.

The profit for campaign is from Gamepass. Getting people to subscribe to their Netflix for games means they have to produce content for it. A live service Halo game fits that bill. Plus, Halo games can help shift consoles and it is a marketing thing as well. It helps the brand having unique IP Xbox exclusives in general.

People will look at the campaign price tag. Realise multiplayer is free. Come to the eureka moment that they can buy gamepass for a month and get the campaign…that’s gets more people signed on to the system.

Once upon a time we bought and owned our games. Now we rent rent every elemental of our games, right down to your digital pigment, on your digital character, in a digital world. The state of gaming and gamers is pathetic these days. Some of you would be buying the water, plants and structures in a map if the devs told you it would fund the opportunity to buy more water, plants and structures on future maps.
