Hello 343 Community! This is my very first post on this forum and I’m pretty happy about it. I am bringing something here that (it seems) not very many people have done;
And that is 3D models of fan made, custom designed armors with a Halo aesthetic (of course :P)
Anyways, what I’m bringing to the table here has been designed from the ground up. Going from sketches on paper straight to 3D. I am also with a Halo cosplaying group that is known as “Armory Props”, they have a Facebook page so if anybody is interested in checking them out, just give them a search. Now its time for an image bombardment of how it all went down, from the initial design sketches to the 3D renders.
(Pardon all the links, not really sure why I cant post the actual image on here.)
Sketches
Renders
And yes, this was all made by me right down to the suit-up gantry. Which the suit-up gantry is based off of the one that is shown at the end of Halo 4, but its not exact. Its a complete artists interpretation.
Now as for the purpose of this thread, I plan on showcasing all of my creations that I will be doing in the future. From renders, to props, to artwork that I’ve done.
The programs I use for doing this stuff are; Google Sketchup 8 Pro with plug-ins for the modeling. I pretty much have the program all modded out so I can do complex detailing on un-even (none flat) surfaces and other things along those lines, I also pose my models in Sketchup. I am however progressivly learning how to “rig” models in 3DS Max 2014. Fore rendering I use a program called Keyshot 4.0 Pro.
Oh okay, thank you for informing me about that ElusiveEagle.
> @Naqser; I have modeled some of the other multiplayer armors but not all of them.
Oh okay. I was just interested in building my own armor and I’ve looked around for quite a while for the pieces I want. I know some 3D modeling but I’m not competent enough to throw myself at Halo 4 armor.
These are amazing! I’m still learning to draw like that, but I do most of my drawing on photoshop! Right now i’m making this novel cover for somebody on this forum, it’s a completely different style to yours but still! May i ask, what tutorials or lessons did you follow to learn how to model like that? absolutely amazing!

Well, drawing and modeling are two different worlds. With modeling your working with polygons that are arranged at different angles and pieced together in varying consistency depending on how smooth you want the surface to be or if you want sharp edges. Not to mention I’ve hardly done any tutorials, I’ve got 7 years experience in 3D modeling and I’ve been self teaching myself everything. By the way, really like how that cover is looking! Very impressive vector art
But if your wanting to learn how to 3D model, just start out on Google Sketchup and just go through the supplied tutorials, there are quiet a few on youtube.
I have a pepakura model of the FOTUS helmet if you want it. Also, I wouldn’t recommend doing FOTUS as your first model, I worked on Maya for awhile and truth is animation software has a very difficult learning curve if you haven’t used it before. Also, thank again for that cover Pixelflare.

Your welcome, it will certainly be interesting to see how you’ll do with it. One thing that you need to remember when working with Sketchup is that you can move your vertices and points, nothing is final until you say so yourself. Heck, thats the way I got all of my models fine tuned like I have, just by moving and tweaking vertices and points. Good luck with doing the FOTUS as your first 3D model. Its going to be a huge challenge considering how organic it is in overall aesthetic nature.
Also, you used Maya and C4D? Your missing out on a bunch of stuff in the 3D modeling universe man. If your wanting to go with a high end modeling program, I would recommend pretty much anything Autodesk. There are loads of programs that they have (and I’m sure you know this… lol) that range from 3D sculpting, to rendering, to animation, pretty much everything you can think of. Maya however certainly isn’t the best program to use for making your 3D models, the work flow in that program is just clunky and weird when it comes to building stuff. But for animation its the perfect program.
