Before i get crucified and castrated, Hear me out.
I was recently pondering some ideas for Halo spinoff games and thought of something in the vain of Battlefield where you play as a marine traversing a living, breathing battlefield.
GAMEPLAY
One of the things that bothered me about the Battlefield campaigns were that they were too linear and on-rails. That’s why my idea for a game like this would be semi-open world taking place in a number of wide-open sections from rural farmlands to an urban city center. Between missions, you are allowed to roam these sections to take on side missions, witness random events, or evade proceduraly generated Covenant patrols.
Another thing that bothered me that can be applied to all modern shooters these days is a lack of depth outside of simply shooting enemies. My idea to remedy that is more environmental interaction. Using various gimmicks and tools in the environment to your advantage. For example, shooting out or disabling street lights to make yourself less visible at night, activating police sirens to attract an enemy patrol to an ambush or away from an important point, or even using a building’s security systems to your advantage such as blast door shutters, cameras, or auto-defense turrets.
So, basically
Gunplay = Battlefield
Open world = Ghost Recon/Division
Interactivity = Deus Ex
Enemy & vehicle behavior = Classic Halo
Now i ask a simple question. If you would enjoy a game like this, which point in the Halo universe do you think would be the best setting? Me personally, i’ve been conceptualizing a story on a brand new planet in the outer colonies, never-before-seen. Or should it be something familiar, like the multiple engagements on Harvest where a number of different locales such as the farmlands, cities, and even the arctic region can be explored? People have been asking for a game centered around Contact Harvest. Perhaps seeing the beginning of the Covenant war as a simple marine or militia member would be much more emotional.
