Third time I’ve personally made this post, I think. Just a friendly reminder that Halo 5 takes up 87 Gigabytes of data. That’s a good 3 to 4 game’s worth of storage. Actually its more than that, because the MC collection (4 games + some) only takes up about 71 Gigs of space.
This is probably my personal biggest nitpick of Halo 5. Every time I get a new game I have to delete something else just because Halo 5 is taking up so much storage. I’m sorry, but how can a professional game developer studio take up that much space with relatively little content. I mean Skyrim + mods only takes up about 20 gigs on my computer!
Anyone else a just a little irritated by the data hassle?

It really annoys me too, and I have a 2 terabyte external to boot. I installed Gears 4 when it went gold, another 55 gb gone, and that’s before any DLC, the store states to allow around 80 gb for Gears 4, it’s not just 343i with huge downloads.
You know something, do we really know that it’s a compression issue? I mean honestly, can you tell me that’s the problem?
What if they do compress the files and this is the result?
Or maybe they do fail to compress properly, my point is I don’t think we know for sure, and we shouldn’t act like everything 343 does is pure incompetence.
They’ve made a lot of mistakes, and this could very well be one of them, but we have no idea what goes on within there ranks. For all we know they could have a tremendous amount of management issues that prevent them form properly makeing the game they want to make.
Let’s just hope they respond to us more about our concerns so that we do get straight answers. I think we need to find a way to put them on the spot more, the internet is an easy place to run from things you don’t want to deal with.
I have at 2TB hard drive so this doesn’t effect me but I understand on why this frustrates so many people. The fact that MCC a bundle of 4 campaigns, 5 multiplayers, Spartan ops, nightfall and the Halo 5 MP beta, takes up less storage than this game is freaking ridiculous!!!

With games now a days, I don’t think it’s going to last too long.

yeah I’m kinda ticked off by this, but I’m probably going to have to get a external hardrive, rip $80

It depends how many games you buy, I have used my 2 terabyte since they allowed it, and I have room for more. I also uninstall games I’m finished with, that hepls too. I would like smaller intstalls though. 80 to 90 gb is ott imo.

Though they are all 360 games, have you noticed that all current gen games are huge compared to their last gen. I can usually download 360 games in just an hour or so but any other xbone game takes hours.
I have a 4 TB hard drive, and something like 142 games. I’m using about 55% of my storage space so far.
It’s not just Halo. They just announced that Infinite Warfare + MW Remastered will take up 130 GB of space on PS4, generally the same for Xbox. One game is a simple remaster included with Infinite Warfare.

That’s dependent on your network speed at home. However yes, 360 games are smaller than X1 games. This is all because of the whole “play while it installs” garbage and the whole open world problem. Devs want to minimize load times and create the largest open worlds ever, but the final result is that we can have 10 games max on a standard console.
Don’t get me wrong, I think open world games are a good concept. But for every Witcher 3/GTA V, there are 5 Dragon Age Inquisitions, that create large, boring, fetch quest filled world’s that are only so large so they can say “38% larger than the Dragon Age Origins entire game” on the box.

You assume it’s 3 to 4 games worth of storage based on past experiences with smaller games (whether in terms of content or graphics).
Take Assassin’s Creed Black Flag for example. Released on both the 360 and the One.
Xbox 360 Version - 8GB
Xbox One Version - 24GB
Games are getting bigger and more demanding. 500GB was clearly never going to hold a lot.
Also, time and energy spent compressing files is time and energy uncompressing those files.
You act as if they don’t… I’m tired of seeing this honestly. I’m willing to bet a lot that they DO compress their data, because any professional game design studio would know how to do this and do so.
They’re the dev’s of a huge AAA game, have you considered that what they’re doing may be, in and of itself, very ambitious and require a lot of disk space even post-compression? What do all of you “competent” forum goers think or think that you know that “incompetent 343” doesn’t know? You guys are the experts right? That’s why YOU don’t work at 343 right??
Geez man, I’m sick of seeing all of these know-it-all “gaming experts” on Halo forums acting like they know exactly what 343 is and isn’t doing… I bet 75% of you guys don’t know a THING about design and development and you act as if you could make a better game! Lmao… Just stop…
I’m willing to bet that a lot of the space that the game takes up is a lot of cut content and hidden files which we simply can’t access. I don’t know much about I.T stuff but it’s ridiculous to think that a game like Halo 5 takes up more space than mcc, which is 4 games in one, or 4 and a half if you count odst’s campaign
