Comprehensive collection of my Infinite feedback

With only a week left before launch, I felt it was a good time to go ahead and post this massive collection of feedback I’ve been composing since november, I understand most of these things probably won’t be able to be addressed for launch, but I figure it’s better to post my feelings sooner rather than later.

There is quite a bit of feedback for various areas of the game, so I’ve tried to keep things somewhat organized and I’ve also tried to keep my feedback constructive and actionable.

Gameplay:

  • There is something wrong with the netcode, I constantly receive packet loss errors and the game is basically unplayable most of the time because of rubberbanding, if I can play MCC without any network interruption I feel like I should have the same experience in this game.
  • Bring back classic style zoom toggling: in past games if you have toggle zoom on but you hold the zoom button it would stay zoomed if you held the button and would unzoom when you released it, I used this feature every time I used a sniping weapon and it was incredibly useful, it needs to return.
  • Aiming does not feel comfortable on controller; after playing around with all the aim settings, I’ve concluded I don’t like the way your aim assist system works and my crosshair is just too hard to control, I think you should go back to an aim assist system like the previous games, particularly Reach and Halo 3 because they felt the best to me. Having a hard time trying to hit my target just isn’t a fun experience on controller.
  • Crossplay should be optional and input based matchmaking should be present. Conflict against certain players can sometimes feel unfair especially with the uncomfortable and difficult aiming system on controller.
  • The commando is too inaccurate, and the kill time is too slow, I’d rather just use the AR because of the inconsistency of this thing.
  • The bulldog feels too weak and slow now, I feel like its just not worth picking up anymore because I’m probably going to lose to someone with an AR.

Gamemodes and maps:

  • Bring back classic gamemodes like KOTH, Assault, Territories Infection, and Juggernaut, there is very little variety right now and swapping out old gametypes as part of events just isn’t going to work for me.
  • Free for all needs to come back as a permanent option! FFA gameplay has always been my favorite thing in matchmaking.
  • Bring back multi-team gametypes and playlists, this is another thing that’s been absent from the franchise for a bit, but I always really enjoyed it.
  • Bring back Firefight.

UI and HUD Feedback:

  • Service tags need to be shown on friendly players. It was a very useful feature for communication and callouts in the past.
  • Lowered crosshair should be in the game, it’s how I played the legacy games and its how I play any shooter where I’m given the option, centered crosshair makes it feel like half my screen is consumed by the floor, whereas with lowered crosshair I see more of what’s important when my crosshair is directly ahead.
  • Colored crosshair options: mainly just so I can color my crosshair blue as in legacy games, I don’t care for the white crosshair.
  • Muting other players individually: If this feature is in the game I can’t find it, I think I should be able to just open the scoreboard and mute someone with just few inputs.
  • Besides being able to move the UI elements around, they should also be resizable, because I find the HUD difficult to read sometimes.
  • Bring back pre-game and post-game lobbies, it was always fun in past Halo games to look at everyone’s armor and service record before the game started, now there’s just nothing besides the scoreboard after a match.
  • Text chat should allow you to speak to everyone in the match including enemy players, being able to talk to other players is valuable to me.

Graphics:

  • The game looks very blurry in motion, even on maximum sharpness. I’ve tried adjusting graphical settings, but nothing seems to correct this problem.
  • There should be an option to turn off AA, as well as more AA options, I don’t like TAA because of the softness it creates in the image, so please allow us to turn it off, and ideally be able use other anti-aliasing solutions in its place, FXAA with a sharpening filter would be preferable for me than having to see the grossness of TAA.

Customization

  • The body type options need to be more meaningful, the choices available have hardly any distinction and they’re virtually impossible to tell apart during gameplay unlike in previous games where the choice had much more impact, I’m sure you can find a way to do this and avoid clipping problems considering it’s been done in every game since Reach.
  • Add new spartan voices, the ones that are in there all kind of just sound American, there’s not much variety amongst them.
  • Coatings should have some degree of basic color customization, the system in place is incredibly limiting, I have an expectation from past games that at the very least I’m going to have access to a primary and secondary color.
  • Coatings should be universal; they’re limiting enough as is, and they have no value to me if I can’t use them on my favorite core, and selling identical copies of coatings for other core is just not okay.

Progression & Challenges:

  • Players shouldn’t be able to bypass the battlepass progression with money, it simply takes away all meaning and accomplishment from progressing when I load into a match and see someone already max level because they paid $200.
  • The challenges are too specific and lead to very frustrating experiences, having to hunt for specific gamemodes, and searching for specific weapons or vehicles that may or may not appear on your current map is just frustrating, it’s not fun at all. The way challenges work in MCC feels fine to me, but not this.
  • Challenges should be able to be progressed all at once like in MCC, it feels frustrating when I get a new weekly challenge that’s cycled in that I know I would have already completed, ideally weekly challenges are all available at once, but maybe they just take a little bit longer to do.

Microtransactions and the store:

  • The store weaponizes FOMO with its timed stock, this is not player-first.
  • Store prices are too expensive; $20 for a coating and an armor set just isn’t okay.
  • I believe all items in the game should be earnable, I understand this is a free to play game, but I’ve been playing Halo for a long time and I’m very attached to customization and earning armor, so right now Infinite is completely failing to meet my expectations. I propose this: Make the battle pass more expensive, completely remove the store, and don’t allow players to skip the battle pass progression with money. I would absolutely be willing to pay up to $30 dollars per season if I knew it meant I was just getting a solid collection of new customization content to earn and unlock.
  • Event items being locked in the store doesn’t sit right with me, the Tenrai event was meaningless to me as a “Free event” because the only thing I wanted from it was locked in the store with a $20 price tag, which I refuse to pay because it’s ridiculous.
  • I don’t believe you should be selling Reach armor in the store; it should have been in the battle pass, and I think it’s bad of you to make people pay the ridiculous store prices if they want to recreate their Reach spartan.
  • The coating system is being used to sell basic color combinations that we’ve been able to make for years back to the player, this is not player-first and it’s not okay.

Thank you for reading!

I have to agree on the game modes.
There are far too many missing.
For custom games, KOTH, assault and infection are much better than the majority of the other modes.

Will LAN be available at launch like it was promised?
We had planned a launch party but I can only see Xbox live and offline as the options. Wasn’t LAN available in the betas already?

I have a gripe with the challenges too.
Why do I have to do weapon kill challenges specifically in slayer matches?
Why can’t I get my weapon kills in any pvp game mode?
I waited almost 2 hours trying to get a slayer game in BTB. I never got one.
At that stage I decided I’d play quick play. I purposely quit something like 8 or 9 games in a row just to get a game of slayer.
If you make challenges like that then expect others to do that too. I didn’t want to do it but with only hours left to complete weekly challenges you left me with no other option as I wanted to complete them to see if it was worth it.

Why can’t you offer 50XP to battle pass progression for the top half of players who scored the most XP during each game?
That does the double duty of helping people play the objectives in-game and making the XP statistic actually mean something.
