I’ve been playing these games for as long as they’ve been coming out. Halo has always been my preferred multiplayer FPS.
One criticism I’ve had for a long time is how stripped down the competitive rulesets are compared to quick play or social playlists in games past and here in Infinite. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with the gametypes per se, but I wish there was more variety to the way people played Halo sweatily. I love BR starts and no motion tracker. but also? I like AR starts. I like the plasma weapons and projectile weapons in these games, but they can fall to the wayside in ranked because of how the battle rifle dominates the sandbox.
For example, I don’t think there’s been a ranked big team battle playlist since Halo 2 if I remember correctly. Are the bigger maps and vehicles considered by the devs internally to be unbalancable no matter what? This is the mindset I’ve often felt like 343 and Bungie before them have had, that half of their own sandbox was invalid and unsuitable for serious gameplay. Again, I’m arguing for more options, not less. Sure, there’s latency. Oh well.
FFA also should have a ranked option (I will spare you of mentioning that it’s not even available in quick play because i assume it must -surely- be on the way). It is one of my favorite modes and is a staple of the genre and it suits Halo very well.
You may ask why not just play quick play then? Because I like rank and I think it does make people take things more seriously. And personally, I have a lot more fun playing seriously.
