I agree
I mean, you may be right.
However, let’s not forget that iirc sometime this month, Overwatch will have a competitive mode. So perhaps the same thing may happen there, but who knows.
Personally, I still enjoy playing Halo even after all these years. There’s something about Halo that no other game has. I can’t place my finger on it, but it’s definitely there. I can play this game for hours on end and it feels like no time has passed by while playing.
lol i can’t even with this thread. a bunch of whiners complaining that halo 5 is too competitive. there are maybe 2 playlists focused on the “competitive community” which is almost nonexistent at this point. you guys got what you asked for with AR starts, kewl assassinations, kewl helmets, and microtrans. you guys got griffball, infection, btb with classic maps, neon green warthogs… what more could you guys possibly want?

> The hardcore Halo fans will stick with the game no matter what, but your reasons aren’t the only ones why people are leaving. Lack of a good balance with social and competitive like you mentioned, bad game mechanics, weapons that need balancing, horrible armor/spartan abilities, bad maps, plus other numerous things are what’s been driving long time and casual Halo fans away in droves. I’m talking about Reach - H5 btw. TBH, you can’t really blame H5 all that much. H4 is what killed Halo and the proof is in the population numbers. Go look at the population graph if you’d like. I’m sure you can find it with Google.
H5 is an improvement over 4 and the abilities you mentioned that are "driving fans away " are what I actually like about this game and I had H1&2 on pc when I was a kid so I’m an original fan. I hate the req system warzone and lack of customization options both for aesthetics and custom games. The weapons are actually balanced in this game which was a problem in all the others. The campaign was trash and the heads at 343 have lied about a lot of things.
who else miss bungie??

Not me anymore ever since Destiny went in.
I personally get stressed, and i just despise the means people will use to win. Is is it that worth it?
I honestly have to agree I’m a huge halo fan but I love both halo for its campaign and matchmaking competitive play and agree there really should be a separate playlist for those who seek " mlg arena " like settings and want to play more hardcore then the casual player. warzone is a ok way of bringing casual play but all the same on days where I’m not feeling warzone which isn’t often cause I love warzone but when I do wana play some more simple pvp I don’t fancy anything from arena. maybe a playlist system similar to the old halo 3 matchmaking would suffice nicely? somehow if it was to be brought to halo 5 utilizing a social playlist and ranking playlist?

Um i don’t have you not seen that game they call destiny where you had to pay another 60 dollars just to get a semi-decent game with a still very unbalanced multiplayer where people only use the same 2 or 3 weapons with stupid microtransactions like 2015 memes for example hotline bling or shia lebouf do it and also the grindy gameplay of doing the same raid over and over just to get a chance of getting the armor they want or need.Halo is way better than destiny its just that 343 needs to find a good balance of both social and competitive gameplay and maybe add a classic playlist in halo 5 with forged maps from old halos.
I only read the first page of posts. But this thread is going to kill me so I’m just going to skip to my 2 cents worth.
Halo 4 was one of the highest selling halos of all time. It did phenomenally well in sales but the multiplayer had almost no competitiveness to it at all. The population dropped like a hot potato a short few months after release. Dropped fast.
The fans screamed for a more competative arena shooter with a balanced sandbox. That’s exactly what halo 5 is, what the fans of the series asked for post halo 4.
I dont want to go back to halo 4. I liked the causual BTB in that game, but that was it.
I am in my nature a non-competative gamer. But I like to be able to play a competative halo game when I want.
When I want to get sweaty I play team arena or slayer. When I want to chill out and play I go into infection, swat, the social weekly or warzone assault. What makes the game competative is the way you play it. You can’t rank diamond or above in any playlist and expect to be casual, the ranks are meant to promote even competative matches based on your skillset ( some people work these with smurfs, but that’s another story). If you want to play causal, play casual during your ranking matches. But the ranking system won’t allow you to beat up on less skilled players for very long, you will eventually be playing against your skill set.
I would Ike to see a team action sack playlist added when Grif is removed. Including mythic shotty snipes, super fiesta, rumble rocks, husky raid, medal madness and a couple others. Action sack game modes are in their nature non competative, I think that will appease the anti competative crowd.
To say that competative halo is killing the franchise is just incorrect. I’m curious to see the percentage of the players who bought the game who were still playing halo 5 a few months after release compared to halo 4. Player retention seems much higher, but we are without any kind of real data to ever know. Matchmaking 6 months after halo 4 released was painful asside from Friday and Saturday evenings.
We all have differing opinions of what makes halo great. IMO a tight 4v4 slayer game with 2 evenly matched teams that goes 50 to 45-49 is what halo is/was about. It’s when I have the most fun and not something I want to ever go away now that we actually have a balanced competative arena shooter back.
Just my opinion, I just like halo 5’s direction for the franchise multiplayer much more than reach or halo 4.

Thank you. Halo since CE has always had its competitive side to. The problem like you said started with Reach and has continued since when they tried to pull in the COD crowd to expand the population and it failed drastically. Where as in the classic trilogy competitiveness was based off power weapons and power up controls, or how well your shots were or you leading your shots and finally map control and high ground. We all so how that changed to armor abilities or Spartan abilities as they are similar to streaks and perks in COD or Reqs which is based off luck for what you unlock not skill. As you mentioned as well the Halo 2 rank system was perfect yet simple win and move up in rank lose and go down in rank. Another thing I’ll mention is the state of the MCC. I’m mostly a CE and Halo 2 guy who parties up with people to win those 2 games in BTB and sadly we never get any competitive games in it at all save for a rare occasion which forces us to do BTB customs for competitive nature. I bring this up about the MCC like you stated it also is at fault for the decline in population of the series as a lot of vets moved on when they realized the lack of competitiveness in BTB for Halo CE and Halo 2 and the lack of sucess each of these 2 games have winning the vote unless your in a party of at least 6. I know personally a dozen that moved on for this reason. Halo 6 has big holes to fill which if it doesn’t the series will never fully recover.
Let’s make Halo great again. #Buildawall

Lmao taking my topic from last month I see:) I’m glad that topic name is going strong.
the age of Esports is here so 343 will never change to the good old days, bungie, bungie jumped to call of duty and is now looking at Activision’s Infinite warfare failure and 343 took over halo to make it as competitive as they possibly can

Pretty much this…
This has to be a joke right? The two poorest performing and weakest installments in the series were Reach and H4, and those were geared towards you casuals.

I have to applaud you for continuing to fight the good fight, don’t know how you haven’t lost your mind yet.
