You cant kill halo.
Halo is Halo no matter what. Even if 343i killed the human race off in the game and you played as the covenant it is still halo it just has changed.
Halo 1, 2, 3, and 4 had a lot in common but now halo has evolved into halo 5; which is just more competitive.
My point is you cant kill halo…no matter how bad the game is.
I think we can all agree we need balance competitive and social. Neither are bad, nore should they be looked at as such. But honestly, we’ve needed balance for a long time. 343 has done very little in order to balance those things out effectively, and sadly it is something that will be extremely difficult now.
I’m suprised that they didn’t forsee this becoming an issue, after reach 343 should have looked at the feedback and made halo 4 mixed comfortably, and halo 5 as well.
Yes, mlg may have picked halo up once again due to halo 5’s competitive environment, but it’s because of that that a large number of people (myself included ) get absolutely frustrated at this game because we have to constantly be on our A game if we want to play the game right.
I don’t feel competitive players are bad, it’s just I can’t be one of them because I get frustrated and angry, and I don’t want a game to do that to me.

> I remember back in the day when youtube channels were made just for halo because how much fun they have playing it and how everyone injoys it because it’s fun and simple, now day’s sense halo 4 came out and how much similar it looked to cod people start to loose interest and move on into new things. Halo back in the day had both competitiveness and casual fun gametypes in two different sections, now days halo is all about being sweaty and play on those hideous small looking maps. Every new game that is released and it’s about fun casual gameplay people go insane about it and play it non stop. For example, over watch have over 7 million registered accounts, wherever I go on social media I see someone is playing it or doing fan art for it because it’s a game for everyone! Just like how halo used to be. Halo is in no shape of being too focused on a competitive gameplay because it’s an exclusive game for a console that is barely selling well, you need to show how fun and simple the game is so that everyone can injoy it. Im not saying competitiveness in halo should go away, it’s been apart of halo sense ages but what I’m saying is they should do like they did in old halos where they put an mlg section for competitive players and a section for casuals and make the gameplay more simple and fun, not just completely ignore the fun aspects of the game and shove competitive gameplay into everyone’s throat like in halo 5 arenas.
I remember back in the day when my mates bundled into my house to play Mario Kart as I was the first in the group to get a SNES. Tastes change, people change, life changes. Halo is what the last generation played, kids want what the new generation play. Get used to it.
My problem with Halo is not the competitiveness, because Halo should be enjoyed by both casual and competitive audiences. I just do not like the direction 343 is going with the franchise. The campaigns just feel different from what they used to be. The art style just looks very cartoony in my opinion. Also, why have the brutes completely disappeared if their weapons have not? I still enjoy playing Halo 5 every couple weeks, but I usually just go back and play MCC because I find that to be more enjoyable.
For some reason, rather than allowing both casual and competitive players to be able to play the way they want (like how they used to be able to), 343 thought it was a better idea to make it all one in the same, so instead of making both sides happy, they gave both sides a half -Yoinked!- version of what they really wanted.
343 Logic.
People wanted a competitive Halo. They got it. And now they aren’t happy that people are playing a competitive game in a competitive manner. Another issue that has arrived in the community is some of the new generation of Halo players who cry endlessly about “farming.” To my first point, people want to win. People find teams to win. Then people give them hell for doing that. It’s like you aren’t even allowed to find a team anymore without everyone reporting you. People need to accept that there is a skill gap. Those who whine about “farmers” (Which I call them crops) are the first to bring “unsportsmanlike” into it. What is unsportsmanlike? That they dominated you? That you lost? That they didn’t play the way you want them to play, so you start witch-hunts and try to shun them? To get them into red-rep so they can’t play with you? Aren’t you, those who pull that card, “unsportsmanlike” yourselves? Because sore losers are and that’s exactly what is going on here: sore losers everywhere. As a certain Halo character said, “For there to be winners there must be a loser.”
Yes, I’ve been on the giving and receiving end. But I didn’t spam them a thousand messages nor did I report ANY of them. I lost. Simple as that. I’ll take it, I’ll learn, and I’ll move on. Nothing after the fact will change what happened. I was outplayed, outmatched and beaten. I accepted that. When I do it, those who actually fight back are the ones I enjoy! It’s become boring killing kids who can’t aim right. I crave to fight teams with a team so we can have a fun, sweaty game.
That being said, Halo 3 did have social playlists as well. Halo 5 should have those as well, consisting of social slayer, social objective and a few other game modes. But considering how Halo 5’s population has dropped due to new games rolling out like DOOM, Overwatch, etc etc, and people’s frustration with 343 not adding in new game modes often and lack of playlists like team doubles, it may not be super profitable to add in too many playlists UNLESS when Warzone firefight comes out 343 advertises the hell out of Halo 5, bring in classic playlists, and try to bring back some of the vets who were turned off by this game. Like what Bungie did with Destiny. Halo 5 isn’t out of the fight yet. But some choices are going to have to be made in order to save it.
What if we didn’t have it though? As Halo players woukd have a great skill and not being able to fully put it to the test so…

Halo Reach did Better than both Halo 4 and Halo 5.

And Halo Reach is considered a terrible Halo game by many vets.
I will never get 343’s obsession with Esports BS. Back in the day there was old MLG stuff going on but most of the time it was just laughable and in reality just a smaller sect of the entire halo community. But now 343 has gone and decided to swift a majority of their focus to Esports. Trying to get a piece of the MOBA pie and at the same time the play testers they have are straight up “pro” players. as well. While I understand they want the game to be more competitive a majority of Arena is barely played at least compared to Warzone or the other non BS competitive modes in Arena.
They should’ve just made an MLG playlist and be done with it. None of this nonsense with crappy pro teams names on ARs or horrible armor variants with MLG stuff on it.

Vocal minority is still a minority no matter how big of a megaphone they have.

Minority size doesn’t matter if halo used to have 1 million peak players down to 20k.

Right there with ya, Halo 4 was too loose and didn’t all players to reach their full potential, Halo 5 has great balance and allows for players to be the best that they can.
Anyone with a brain can see making a ‘AAA’ game exclusively chasing one demographic is incompetent.
Halo used to appeal to all levels of play.
Pro types just think they rule the roost since the are more skilled and that by itself justifies that they should be catered to in all aspects.
Soon enough they will be the only ones left and then they can tear each other apart blaming anything and everything other than themselves.
halo 5 has alot more casual game modes than the older hal’s ever did, so false

Actually it kinda does.
Even though I doubt Halo 5 is at 20k(IF ONLY WE COULD ACTUALLY SEE THE POPULATION COUNT 343) At this point the term halo “vet” could mean a lot of things. Maybe someone who started off at 3 though more realistic CE of Halo 2. Either way Halo 3 sold roughly 12 million units Reach sold 10 million. While it is popular to bash on Reach cause of say sprint or armor lock which most people do a majority of people enjoyed Reach which the numbers obviously imply and to this day Reach at peak hours has actually 20k people on. People that consider Reach a terrible Halo game are a vocal minority though it kinda funny when you think about it when someone of them go and play Halo 5 now. Which is an even more radical change of pace than Reach was.

WHAT?
Halo 5 just add infection and a couple months ago they added grifball and if you consider BTB casual for whatever reason they added that even more months ago.
Halo 5 launched with no just for fun gamemodes. It was ranked arena and Warzone.
The older halos had tons of game modes that weren’t something like arena. They had so many its the entire reason why action sack was created.
343 also said multiple times in their little making Halo 5 series that they’re focusing on more competitive Esport BS and that can also be seen in their actions halo 5 also.

Correction for this word, forces.

My point is the minority/majority arguement for anything halo related means nothing if halo isn’t even close to as big as h3 was.
To to the reach is a bad game thing. It depends on how one looks at it. It was still in the halo universe but it also broke cannon which many disliked, then there was the armour abilities in multiplayer which completely changed halos arena/tactical concepts and started the downfall of competitive play. The armour abilities were my only gripe with the game but I still liked it a lot. Then there was bloom which many disliked as it made precision firing more of a luck thing if you spammed your shots, and the loss of the BR. Reach succeeded in variety, creativity, and just plain fun, but it failed in competitive play making it agitating with the armour abilities and bloom, and the story went vs lore.
To the “pace” of h5. Fun fact, even with sprint and all the abilities added to halo, the pace of h5 is just as fast as halo 2, 3, 4, reach. HCE has the fastest pace and it is the original halo game. If you’re referring to just the pace of mechanical changes to the game, h5 is less than reach if you ask me as it has less abilities to it, and the gunplay is back to its roots with no bloom. H5 can’t be compared to reaches change simply cuz reach and h4 was before h5 and we’ve already had 6 years to adjust, h5 hasn’t done anything radical besides the reqs really.

Actually, grift ball is now another super sweaty, tryhard infested playlist due to it counting towards KD(A), win percentage, commendations, and the such so yeah its no longer a “casual” playlist. BTB is in the middle of casual and competitive matchmaking so its best to leave that alone, along with warzone. Infection is the only remaining permanent playlist that can actually be called a “casual” playlist which means that if not for the weekend playlists, every playlist in Halo 5 but infection would be a competitive playlist.
