Competitive Halo 4 Ranking System 1-50

Short and to the point seeing as how I have class.

I know 343 has stated that they are implementing a halo 4 rank system, ONLY VIEWABLE IN WAYPOINT. What is the point of this then? I’m not going to want to go to waypoint to check my ranks, and I certainly won’t go there to check other’s ranks. It defeats the purpose of having a rank; there is no point. No one can see it. The reason the Halo 2 ranking system was loved was because of how hard it was to rank up. It gave people the drive to get better, and that transformed it into one of the most beloved games of all time. Me, and all the competitive community, wants to see their rank next to their name, so they know they are progressing and have something to go toward. Let’s face it, I want my rank so other people know I am better than them. Why would I want to hide it in waypoint? And vice versa, if someone has a 50 in regicide ffa and I do not, then props to them and I will strive to get it. The simple point is, people want ranks next to their name. Putting it in waypoint is just a way to try to appease the people who want a rank, but in the end it wont work. If I don’t have something to continually go for, I will probably quit like reach.

All we have been begging for since h3 now is a h2 ranking system. Myself and everyone I talk to in matchmaking, mlg forums, wherever, wants to see the rank.

I understand 343 doesn’t want cheaters that come along with this. But logically, what is the point of hiding it in waypoint for no one to see but yourself? This model won’t work. People were respected in halo 2 for their high rank, and it gave others determination to attempt the rank themselves. The cheating business is no excuse; computer games have had anti cheating software for 12 years now. Thing of Counter Strike insta-ban.

I remember watching an interview with the lead designer for matchmaking and he was talking about how with their new scoring system, no one will be left out. You get points for everything, even if you just shoot someone once for an assist. He was talking about making the game more fun for all so everyone will have points even if they don’t get kills. While I am for making the game more fun for others, this reminded me of the concept of “everyone is a winner and gets the trophy” thing. Back in halo2, if you got 0 kills and you sucked, you knew it. But the game was so fun all you wanted to do was get better. There was such incentive to strive to be better than others. Where did this sense of urgency go? The reason I got good at h2 was because I wanted to since I sucked. Now it is like, if you suck who cares you are ranking up regardless. There needs to be winners and losers for the game to succeed in the long run before people get bored. The winners rank up, the losers try to get their ranks back.

PLEASE, add visible ranks next to people’s names, it will pay off in the long run because people will stick around and play this game and buy the dlc etc.

While I am at it, where is team matchmaking/clans rank like dota2/halo 2?

I agree not having a way to show my ranks makes me not want to play more games. I could care less about getting exp to buy new armor or appeal to the masses with the everyone wins mindset. I am sorry but I don’t think the casual gamer is going to be into Halo matchmaking for more than a couple of days. Hardcore Halo fans want a ranking system that they can see, why can’t they just give us the option to turn it on or off or just put it there, was there not enough money in the budget to add this feature or was it taken out because the people who suck don’t want to see they are rank 10 and can’t move up? I really like this game but in order for me to love it I need to see my rank

Its easy to understand.

A game without a ranking system will loose 80% of its crowd once a new game (cough BLOPS2) hits. Halo 3 has more players than Halo Reach at peak times for that exact reason.

Seriously could not agree more with you lincoln. I suggest posting to the Halo 4 forum to bring more attention to this.

Thanks for the feedback and support all. Please spread this around.

I and everyone I know agrees. 343 needs to implement a real ranking system. We’ve been wanting it back since Halo 3. The game is awesome and improved in every way as far as gameplay, but I just don’t see myself playing it all the time if I don’t have something to work for to show my real skill level. It was honestly half the fun everyone putting their rank on the line. Also. Put in Team Snipers 343!

Completely agree Halo 2 was the best because it didn’t matter if you used to suck. You could always move up to the top as long as you kept winning with 1 account. You didn’t have people constantly making new accounts just to be able to get to 50.

It had no BS, all about if you won or lost.

I agree with you completely the real ranking system would make this game so much better thats the main reason i stuck with this game. BRING BACK THE 0-50 RANKINGS!!!

Yes please!

Everyone I play with agrees there needs to be a legit ranking system. People played halo 2 from the day it came out to the day halo 3 was released, this was because of the halo 2 ranking system.

343 just flat out ruined online gameplay it is symple as that the multiplayer layout screen is crap too

Agreed 100%. Good thread.

While i agree with that, i also think Halo 4 should just try to be adapted to right now. Its amazing online, and not everyone wants ranks. I would love a ranking system, but for now i just want to have fun.

I dont see the point in not having it there, it deosnt take anything away from anyone just adds to the experience of those who want it. Its a win win. Having the system will really make the game more fun, already getting bored of slapping noobs like its social everygame.

And while youre at it, take out join in progress, that -Yoink- is bs…

Thanks for all the great feedback everyone. Let’s keep this bumped.

Just tell me when MLG signs on please.

Yes, exactly. Halo 2 and Halo 3 were the most fun I’ve ever had online. I don’t like how it’s now about how many kills you can get. Before, you could join a match and you had to work together with people you didn’t know in order to win and rank up. That was a great social aspect of those two games. Now this is like Call of Duty and really, who wants another one of those?

I rarely played H2 online so I don’t have an opinion on that ranking system.
H3’s ranking system worked for me. I was terrible at the game at first and when I started hitting level 30, 35, 40 I began to feel pride in what I had achieved in the game and wanted to play more.

I wanted to better myself and eventually I hit 50 in a bunch of playlists.

The ranking system alone was enough to keep me playing Halo 3 year after year. It gave me that ‘just one more game’ attitude if I felt I was a win away from ranking up.

I had no motivation to play Halo Reach and eventually stopped playing after a matter of months. Grinding experience to inevitably increase my rank is not my idea of fun, it begins to feel like a chore.

I can say for sure that Halo 4 will need a competitive ranking system visible to all to keep me playing past the new year.

I really hate to even say this but I have been playing for 3 days and im already asking myself what now. Unlocking armor just isn’t fun. I don’t know I just feel there’s allot missing in multiplayer. I am just a little disappointed I guess.

I have read that they are bringing the 1-50 back prolly beginning of 2013. Running now in background to work out all glitches. The mulitplayer itself I find to be fun, different but fun. Does anyone else hate the fact that it feels like your playing social every game?? Add some RANKED playlists. http://blogs.halowaypoint.com/post/2012/11/02/Halo-4-Competitive-Skill-Rank-Announcement.aspx
