Community

I find it funny how all the topics trying to pull this community back together with paperclips and glue are getting locked or flamed by everyone not trying. People like to yell at each other with baseless facts and opinions instead of saying “oh you have a different opinion than me” and moving on and having a beer (or soda for younger players) together. 343 is doing their best after Bungie ditched the series and is no going downhill with their Destiny game (forcing players who got the game early to either pay $120 or $140 for a complete game, but that’s besides the point).

I find it funny how a there are players getting mad at 343I for not giving us every single little detail and getting mad that Firefight or Spartan Ops (a game hated on and discontinued because of player feedback). And we like to forget that we were promised a lot of things for CE that never came to be, one example is the ability to use a sword (yes we got it later but that is besides the point). We like to forget that Combat Evolved was supposed to have 25 levels/missions instead of 10. We like to ignore the fact that Halo 2 had it’s third act cut from the game due to time constraints and a lot of other features (sprint being amongst them) were cut as well.

Would I have liked to have a complete game at launch, hell yeah I would have like most of you. But do I mind waiting for them to actually polish the extra parts and give it to us instead of another MCC debacle? No I don’t mind waiting. 343I has arguably given us the best multiplayer we have had in a long time, and no matter the yelling and whining I find that that is something we all agree on as a community.

Everybody has their different views of it, some hate the campaign (and I find some hate misplaced on the false claim that we were told we would play as MC more, we weren’t) and some love it like I do.

I find it funny how some of you forget that the creating of a video game is an art form and the playing of it is a passion. We all used to share the passion to play Halo and be together as a community, did we argue? Yeah, but did that lessen anything? No. Now all I see is fans saying “I’m a vet, your opinion doesn’t matter” and putting down other fans. People also like to forget that they asked for 60fps and 1080p and yelled for it. And now that we have it we are dissatisfied because they had to take out a dying feature to give us what we wanted.

You guys/gals like to forget what we came from. Now I am almost ashamed (like others like myself on this forum) to call myself a Halo fan because that word, this community has just been riddled with anger and venom and people nit-picking over minor things.

Hell I know that I will get spammed with flame and probably locked for this but this is something we have to get back, our community and our love for this art form.

You nailed it. This is exactly what the Halo community has come to and its almost disgusting. This is the kind of behavior I would expect from Call of Duty fanboys. Halo is a proven series driven by its story and perfected by its multiplayer. Always has been and (hopefully) always will be. I dont know how any “veterans” can be disappointed in the multiplayer brought forth by 343 in this game, because for me it is reminiscent of every Halo game i’ve ever played and enjoyed. Halo is its own entity and it’s evolving in a way I never could have imagined and I believe that it 343 is taking it in the right direction. We need to get back to what the halo community always has been about. Getting together, hyping up the next game, finding new friends to kick -Yoink- with online, and just having fun together in game and on the forums. Thats the Halo i’ll always remember and I dont know how we’ve gotten away from it.

I agree!

… Is a good show that wasn’t properly appreciated, much like the original Arrested Development.

Also, this community behaves pretty much like any online community based on a game does.

Thanks for that, OP. You’re entierely right.

Yeah, no. 343I jumped ship on this game pretty quick. It’s a piece of crap.

Preach

You absolutely hit the nail on the head OP. Very well said.

Agreed, I posted a fun little theory about the Halo 5 Ads being run by ONI and all people could do, and I really want to call them out, come in -Yoinking!- about how awful 343industries is…

This community is -Yoinking!- disgusting…

Hey, isn’t this the guy who would end every argument with every reasonable Halo 5 critic by calling them a troll? Ha.

You should understand that this game isn’t perfect, and criticizing it with valid points is important to have 343i improve the next game. Halo 5 has fewer features than previous Halo games. Every Halo game added more to it improving gameplay and replay value except Halo 5 which went backwards by not having modes which the past games had.

Combat Evolved was going to have 25 levels? If that were true, who seriously cares? Halo CE was a fantastic game with an amazing story that STARTED the one of the greatest series to date. It was the first game which set the basics of every Halo game to come; you can’t get mad at it.

Again I heard you claim that Halo 2’s campaign was cut short, and I have yet to see proof of this. I would appreciate it if someone can provide a link to me for this and the CE 25 levels thing. Regardless, I enjoyed the Halo 2 campaign and it definitely improved upon the previous story, expanding the universe by introducing playable Covenant levels.

Yeah we expected Halo 5 to have past features and improve upon them given the fact that they had the same development cycle of three years. I agree, the multiplayer is absolutely fun, but it still lacks a more variety of modes. Like Action Sack. Where are those epic wacky game modes?

Okay, three playable missions as Chief is only one of the many problems of the Halo 5 campaign. But, like you said, some like it and some don’t like it.

Are you serious? Defending the removal of split screen for 60fps/1080p again? Let me say it again; 1) Games have done both. Halo 5 didn’t. Because 343i had split screen as an afterthought, 2) The game is not constant 1080p, but they tried I guess, and 3) Some of us really love split screen because then we wouldn’t have to purchase another Xbox One, TV, game, and account LIVE to play with this family member or friend sitting next to us. Face it: Microsoft is making big bucks because of this removal. People are truly upset of no split screen. Not all of us wanted 60fps/1080p.
The community is not completely filled with haters. Stop looking at it like that. Every community has its haters; look at those of us who dislike Halo 5 for valid reasons. You’re saying this community is filled with haters? Well those so-called haters think that this community is filled with ignorant 343i fanboys who praise whatever game 343i releases. And I’ve seen plenty of those around. Improve the future Halo game and stop ignoring the problems with Halo 5.

Maybe the complaints are justified as the game is pretty much on its deathbed now.

Bungie set a bar of quality, as they’ve said themselves in a vidoc(of Halo 3 I believe). They either have to reach that same bar or be better. Going lower means a colossal failure. Halo 3/Reach set that bar to the highest point and Halo 4 and 5 did not reach it, one might argue if they’re close or not, but still below.

And that’s what is causing the population to die. Would one have a reason to buy an Xbox One and Halo 5 if it’s prequels are more fun to them and have more content?

Those complaints are coming from those who realise this, if Halo 5 foes not set a new bar it will die an early death, therefore people demand change in an attempt to keep the game alive.

The population isn’t dying. It’s not the highest it’s ever been, but it sits around the same spot all the time. Small and dying are two very different things.

To be honest, all I can tell you is to go look at other video game forums, official or on reddit alike, because you’ll see the exact same thing there that you see here.

As much as people forget where they come from, they also forget that they’re not the only ones posting shameless rants, self-centered input, etc… regarding a game they like/want to like. People also going around telling people “you should be ashamed” are also on the same boat, no offense of course, we all do have our own opinions. However, you or anyone else (again, no offense) going around telling people to fix their ways aren’t exactly solving anything. I’ve seen a similar thread a while ago here that did the same thing, only OP ignored any feedback that he didn’t like to see, which is a worse example, but shows the irony of the subject matter.

I would like it more if people instead of dancing the same routine look for a middle ground that can lead to a constructive result. Not a constructive discussion, but a result, because it’s much much easier to everyone if they can agree to one thing, and work it from there. Then again, we probably would have less problems in the world if that could happen.

You’re right, the amount of bile and vitrol thrown at Supercell from parts of the Clash of Clans community was shocking to me when I first started using their official forums. Then when Halo 5 was released I joined here and found the same culture and I was just saddened to find this seems to be how the gaming community treats developers these days. I feel for developers.

Everybody will never be happy, its just the nature of things. We can get this and that and somebody will still complain. People even complain about “too much content”.

  1. I only end arguments with Trolls with that. Because I find there tends to be a good handful on here just looking for attention.

  2. I see valid points made quite often but most posts I have seen were simple whining. People raging cause sprint is still in the game or some other silly stuff. And Halo 5 added Clamber, Spartan Charge, and other great abilities in game and a forge that (when polished) will be a lot better than the forges of old.

  3. I wasn’t getting mad at it. I was pointing out facts that people like to ignore when making baseless arguments.

  4. And if I remember correctly I HAVE provided you links in the past along with a lot of other players but here you go.

  5. They are coming. Like I said would I like them in at launch? Yeah. But do I mind waiting for them to be polished and for everything to work nicely when they are released rather than another MCC debacle. No.

  6. Another opinion. We were never told we would get a bunch of levels as Chief. We were simply told we would be able to play both characters. And we have.

  7. Proof. Cause I haven’t seen a game able to properly do both. And again, the MAJORITY wanted it which is who 343 Industries wanted to please. That being said I don’t care about 1080p or 60fps because at the end of the day there is no real difference after 30fps (I know I play on both console and PC) and would have also liked split screen. And you obviously haven’t seen that much of the community if you believe that. Most people here are nit picking or whining because Halo 5 isn’t Halo 2.5. Hell we have had quite a few posts recently from avid quitters whining about being banned for long periods of time. Is that what the community has come to? Sadly it has. And I find it funny you are trying to turn this into a good and bad/black and white thing. There is grey, there is a middle ground. But no. You seem to only see two sides: The people who hate Halo 5 (for good reason as you state) and those who are “ignorant” for liking Halo 5. The fact of the matter is there are a few things that need be fixed in Halo 5 and they are getting fixed. There are people who don’t like it for good reasons (their own reasons) and people who LOVE it for good reasons. There also are people who just compliment 343 just to brown nose them (although I haven’t come across many of those as of late) and those who hate 343i and Halo 5 for no reason. Then you also get the people who like to step on others because “their opinions don’t matter” which happens on both sides. So pretending this is just black and white to make your own views seem better will not work.

Thanks for reading

I think it’s really funny that the link you provided doesn’t work.^^
Don’t worry, it’s just a typo. I already fixed it in the quote.

Halo MCC?

The community needs to try to involve every aspect of helping one another by threading one anothers posts. For me, starting open discussion with members and consuming the idea that only sharing ideas, will help, seems to be the way to go imo. At least to keep the post and/or topic alive in any case.

This is a better post than most I have read…good job OP!
