Community State

It has occurred to me that our community is in trouble. When Bungie left we where heartbroken & we had a new “father” to look forward to. At first we where speculative and some where worried. After halo 4 we realized halo has changed we where not ready but many of us soon adapted.

2016 halo 5 has been out and the community’s response to the game was not expected. Now many bash on the game and some seem to straight up hate the developers. They say every map gametype or campaign mission is completely trash. This atmosphere is different from the one I grew up with. I bet it isn’t even halo 5 it’s 343 they don’t like. I could tell you if Bungie was still in charge there would be a drastic change in negative feedback.
But the bottom line is 343 are here now and you pretty much have no say over that I don’t think bungie is coming back. It would be more beneficial to the developers and the halo community if you would stop bashing the game and the developers. I know you have a right to be upset and I respect that, but complaining and discrimination to the developers won’t accomplish anything. The best way to make a change and grab there attention is to approach you issues In a polite respectful way. Maby give them good feedback such as ways realistically they can improve realistic problems.
I understand there are you who already doing this and thank you. I have my best hopes that a positive community will rise from this approach and more will start to better the halo community rather than destuct it with such destructive criticism witch by now 343 has had enough. Keep doing great and don’t destroy the reputation of the halo community we all helped build.

I’d rather complain and have the game changed for the better than stay silent and let every Halo game in the future end up just as vacant as Halo 5.

Psst, most of the negative community is here, on Waypoint. There’s a reason 343 frequent the Halo subreddit, and that’s because the trash gets downvoted by people who can recognise a legitimate complaint from someone complaining yet again about BR starts. The discussion is more constructive and informative as opposed to Waypoint’s MUH BR and DAE 343 IS SATAN?

r/Halo is an echo chamber of positive feedback. Not exactly useful.
Beyond is a place of intelligent criticisms.
Waypoint is just a mess.

“You’re only mad because it’s 343i and not Bungie.”
Yes, I’m sure such an inaccurate dismissal of everyone’s criticisms is going to mend the rift here.

I would rather criticize the game and tell 343i what should be in Halo games and what shouldn’t, than stay silent and watch as Halo becomes a clone of other generic shooters.

I could care less that 343 is making halo games now and not bungie.

The problem is. 343s Halo games suck.

So what people that have legit complaints about the game should shut up and kiss 343s butt?

Idk if you realize this or not OP, but Halos population is a fraction of what it once was, and it’s bc since Halo 3, most people don’t view Reach-5 as true halo games.

It has nothing to do with a community that sucks, it has everything to do with the developer of this series constantly listening to the wrong people.

The problem is that the people who dislike something will always be more vocal than those that are content with the current situation. This creates a disparity between the perceived demand for something and the actual demand.

You can’t please everyone, and in trying to please one portion you run the risk of annoying even more than you started with. There is no perfect answer.

IMO 343 is capable, they just need to get the story of Halo 4 and the gameplay of Halo 5 in a room together and make them have a beautiful baby of epic story and gameplay that feels weighted and alive.

I have a hunch about why the community has been acting more childish the last few years. Children. 343’s games have been rated T for Teen (at least for the most part), and Bungie’s games were rated M for Mature (at least for the most part). I think that as a result there are even more youngsters playing now than there was in the past, and they are likely a contributing factor to the toxicity that people keep talking about.

I can’t believe this is a serious post.

I mean for one the only T-rated Halo game is Halo 5, and it only just came out last year. The complaints about Halo far pre-date Halo 5.

good thing reach was not made by 343 then…

First of all, -Yoink- Bungie, they had nothing left so they abandoned ship. Hate 343 all you want, but they at least have the balls to keep trying with the Halo franchise (a franchise full of history and nitpicky -Yoinking!- fans) whereas bungie was like ‘oh -Yoink-, we can’t handle this anymore, pass this -Yoink- off.’

Second off, I totally agree the community would be 10x better off if they learned how to communicate like mature adults. Unfortunately it’s clear that won’t happen anytime soon, so do your best to make positive and constructive threads/replies and hope that you make a difference.

Oops double post.

Generalizations galore! Okay, where to begin:

Bungie’s contract with Microsoft was expiring so they wanted to leave. Whatever, I can understand that. They didn’t want to be labelled as the “Halo Developer”, and wanted to do other things. I feel that Bungie could have had their cake and eat it too, had they renegotiated a contract with Microsoft that allowed them to make other games besides Halo. It’s not that 343i has the balls to do so, it’s because they are paid to do so. They don’t care at the end of the day if the franchise’s quality goes down the toilet, so long as people buy their games and line their wallets.

Fans are “nitpicky” because there is a certain quality and expectation when it comes to Halo games. Such as a game that contains most of the multiplayer content of its predecessors, a decent campaign, ~10 maps that are of good quality, decent post-release support, and actually acts like a Halo game instead of a generic FPS like its competitors (which by the way, do the generic FPS thing far better than Halo does).

Secondly, you are going to say that the community is childish, when you are right now complaining about Bungie, about the complaints against 343i, and the community? That takes some stones, dude.

The hate was not expected? The hate was there since Halo 4 came out. It just became worse after each installment.

R/halo are full of fanboy -Yoink!-. A place full of morons. It’s no different than Waypoint

leaning towards joining the reddit community more and more because of this…

Edit: Another super salty thread developing. Perfect for popcorn…

Oh I adapted to halo 4… By going back to reach and h3… Halo 4 was complete trash that was made for casuals and had nothing hardcore halo fans wanted or asked for. Halo 5 is what halo 4 should have been. I treat halo 4 like sw episode 1 I forget it ever happened and downplay its existence

It may not be the opinion of all the dissenters, but to say that it doesn’t factor into the anger of many that do complain here would be just as inaccurate a dismissal as the one you are accusing OP of making.

OP, the community has always been like it is. Bungie wasn’t criticism free and if you really want them back halo could be worse than it is. Seriously, they were done with halo after h3, they had no desire to continue it but did so because of their contract. I’d rather have a dev make a game willingly, rather than one who lost his passion and dedication. Bungie could’ve made things even worse had they stayed after reach and IMO reach was a way of them giving us the middle finger with what and how they did reach with the changes.

In short, the forums always had negativity, h2 was the “end of halo” back then. I’ve heard it all, and halo is still here 15 years later and there’s talk of it lasting 30 more years. Halo is a niche, it’s not what it was during h2 or h3.
