Community Slayer Praise

Hello everyone, I just wanted to provide feedback as an active Halo player and fan. I really appreciate the added playlist that only features new maps, it is something I have been wanting for a long time. The arena/arcade game-play style with the competitiveness keeps me playing halo along with the ability to keep things refreshing with the infinite maps possible in forge. I really hope this playlist remains and continues with the next Halo release and I hope overtime the playlist consists of a huge number of maps, and perhaps some could get added to the ranked playlists.

Thanks for hearing my feedback and I hope this continues!

I haven’t played it yet but I remember the last time I played community slayer I really enjoyed most of the maps. I am excited to give them a go tonight.

Thanks for the response! I so far have enjoyed every map, although I am still biased because they are new and refreshing. I really like seclusion I just wish it didn’t have a ghost haha XD

I like the maps but I don’t turn Furnace is very good. We only have 18 meters motion tracker and there are sightlines that are too open and big for such a short motion tracker range. And also it’s annoying how restrictive paths are to get places are. That one map isn’t great but the others are.

I currently agree with you to an extent, I haven’t played enough of the playlist yet to get past the “refreshing” feel of a new map but so far I think Furnace isn’t designed for the game-play I enjoy. I still have enjoyed it but I’ll have to play more to get a firm opinion but so far I personally think I might ending up disliking the map in the sort of fashion I dislike Overgrowth. I can’t put my finger on it but I want to say the map seems cluttered in too many ways where grenade traps and camping might become too common.

I really like the idea of Community Slayer, but the reality has been borderline at best. While most of the maps have their own personality in terms of aesthetics, in terms of gameplay they’re all brutally conformist (except possibly Furnace). If you like the Halo Gameplay Formula with no variation or deviation whatsoever then you’re in luck. If you were hoping that forgers would mix things up a little then prepare for disappointment.

But the real problem with Community Slayer is the same problem as all social playlists in this game: the almost complete absence of anything resembling skill-based matchmaking. It seemed like every game ended with one player having gone 27 and 5 while everyone else was 5 and 15. Not very engaging, imo.

I have to disagree, many of the maps play well from my experience and offer variety on the same level as many 343 developed maps. In my opinion I don’t see Data Center, Echelon, and Russet offering a more bland experience than Truth which happens to be a very popular map. I do agree that these maps might offer the “typical” Halo feel which I enjoy except they are new so they offer some refreshment. If you enjoy Furnace you might enjoy a different feel than most (or at least with people I’ve played with) and that is completely fine and part of the Halo experience. I enjoy Furnace myself but I can see why some of my friends hated it. I agree the competition on social playlist can be unbalanced especially when you get to a higher level, I believe you are an Onyx? So I can understand you there. Still I consider myself well above average when my shots are on point but I still come across close games consistently on the new playlist.

Community Slayer has the potential to increase Halo online replay value for the ultra competitive also because it provides a “test ground” for new maps that could be added to ranked playlists. Even if one doesn’t love any of the new maps currently, it is a game of odds if the playlist is to continue with map additions, eventually there will be some that people enjoy. For these reasons are some examples of why I believe Halo should implement such an addition into the remaining Halo 5 lifespan and Halo games beyond. Cheers and I look forward to any responses as this is something of great interest to me.

Pretty stoked to see and play Analogue and Seclusion within this playlist - those are fantastic maps IMO. The rest are maps that were being tested out for HCS inclusion. Hopefully, the next time the Community playlist comes around it’ll also include FullMetal, Aquarium, and Twice Forsaken which are three excellent community maps that unfortunately have not yet seen matchmaking. I also wouldn’t mind seeing a few past community maps that have actually seen matchmaking make a return such as Thermoptic and Noburu 7 from the Ghost in the Shell competition.

I have yet to play this playlist but will make a point in doing so tonight so I can try these new maps

I do think Analogue and Seclusion are some of my favorites within the playlist. I had no idea some maps were being tested for HCS, not sure how that would work now because they removed it? I have yet to play those other maps but would greatly look forward to any new mad additions.

HCS wasn’t removed. It simply got renamed into the Team Arena playlist. The past Team Arena playlist was renamed Core Play and turned into a social rotational option. Within the new Team Arena (aka HCS) playlist both Fissure and Echelon were accepted. Watch highlights of the New Orleans HCS MLG event and you’ll likely see those maps played by the pros.

Oh ok, I am familiar with how they changed Team Arena to HCS, I actually am glad they did that, perhaps I am in the minority there though.

So far this is what I think of them,

  • ANALOGUE - I don’t mind it but doesn’t blow me away. Decent Map that plays ok. 6/10 - DATA CENTER - I’m not really a fan. Also that high powered Carbine (I can’t remember the name for it) needs to go. It’s super OP. 4/10 - ECHELON - There’s a few little things I think I’d change but overall I like it quite a bit. 8/10 - FISSURE - This is by far my favorite. I love how it plays, looks, weapon choices, everything!! Great map! I forgot it was in the Team Arena too. I can definitely see why. 10/10 - FURNACE - I’m not really a fan of it. I think I understand what the designers were going for but to me it just doesn’t play very well. I also think it’s a little bit too cluttered. It definitely looks interesting though I’ll give it that. 3/10 - RUSSET - It’s a other one of these maps I don’t mind but doesn’t grab me. I do think it has potential with changes though. 6/10 - SECLUSION - I think this is a great map! My second favorite for sure. I would change some weapons and/or placements and/or maybe some spawns, but overall to me it’s pretty good. Kind of gives me High Ground/Isolation type feel for whatever reason and I like that. Really like the backdrop and great to see a vehical in 4-4 again. 9/10 - VESTIGE - I really like the look of this map, well done! But I just feel like it’s pretty unbalanced in quite a few areas. It plays “ok” but not the greatest I think. 5/10As you can see my top 3 are Fissure, Seclusion and Echelon. I would love for these to replace some maps or add, lol in the Team Slayer playlist.

I’m loving the fact I’m seeing things like man cannons again in maps, but where are the teleporters people!! I miss them. As I said, really glad to see some vehicle play in 4-4 again too. It’s sorely missed in my opinion. Oh and please replace the H5BRs with H2BR. The H5BR are not even worth picking up.

I love the idea of having a community playlist. I wish they had it more often. It’s an easy way to get new maps and have players test them. I’ve played more of Halo 5 since this has come out then I have in the last 2-3 months+ easily!! Also, just because they’re forge, doesn’t mean they’re not good. Some forge maps play a lot better then some of the ones 343I made even :wink:

It’s nice to hear a personal review! I have been playing a good amount of the Community Slayer Playlist myself and so I have developed some opinions on the maps myself. I strongly disagree with your view on Analogue  ! It really gives me a Halo 1 vibe and it plays well in my opinion. I love the balance of open areas and halls mixed with closed space halls, that provide easy grenade bins for heavy campers. I really enjoyed Data Center at first but over time I have started to criticize the map, so much of the map is made of hallways and corners that encourage nade traps and chasing. I still enjoy the map and think it is fun but sometimes it annoys me. I love the Carbine power weapon and prefer it over rockets spawning despite your OP criticism. I believe it has only two clips? Thus providing less guaranteed kills than 4 rockets in my opinion. I strongly agree with you on your opinion of Seclusion, the maps plays excellent, my only criticism is the ghost, while it is fun I would prefer it gone especially if thrown in ranked. I disagree with your opinion on Russet, I feel like the map is very open which I like, however it provides just enough cover to not make it just an open field, an excellent map in my take. As far as the other maps I won’t type out more details at the moment.

It is good to hear other people have been drawn to Halo more as I have due to new maps being put out there, we can only hope this continues and that some find themselves in ranked playlists some day!

> Also, just because they’re forge, doesn’t mean theyre not good. Some forge maps play a lot better then some of the ones 343I made even :wink:

You couldn’t have said it better! It is silly to me that people are quick to trash a map because it is made in forge, all the tools are there and it is inevitable excellent maps will be made as long as people keep creating them.

Here here…this playlist needs to remain…i would like to see it either expanded or add an additional featured playlist for community maps that play objective gametypes well.

Well said, it needs to remain, nuff said haha. I definitely love the idea of eventually bringing some of the maps to ranked playlists and adding some more maps to the Community Playlist overtime. I am not opposed to the Community Playlist having objectives thrown in there myself but I don’t desire it enough to really mind either way.

I like the community playlist however, most games I get are horrible with massive shot registration issues most of the time where it just becomes unplayable and MM seems crap with a very wide skill gap which is evident in the scoreboard, seems worse this week though and I guess because I’m outside of the US doesn’t help. But that aside I just wish I could enjoy this playlist more… the joys of playing H5 is finding that fine line between frustration and enjoyment.

Nice list. This is what I currently think…

  • ANALOGUE - A very solid map. I appreciate the throwback CE thematic feel. I wouldn’t mind trying CTF on it. 7/10 - DATA CENTER - It’s a bit too confined and small in my opinion. Looks really pretty though. 5/10 - ECHELON - A very solid and good looking map. Very happy it got selected for the HCS. 8/10 - FISSURE - Another very solid map. Plays quite well, but I’d like to be able to play Oddball on it without the HCS settings. I absolutely love its aesthetic look. 8/10 - FURNACE - It plays okay I guess. I’m told it plays Strongholds pretty well, so I’d be interested in trying that mode on it. Visually though I’m not the biggest fan of the theme. 6/10 - RUSSET - Not really a big fan. It does remind me of some of those Halo 3-styled custom MLG maps from back in the day, but its got a lot more of a cluttered feeling to it IMO. 4/10 - SECLUSION - It’s been a personal favorite custom map of mine for some time. I was ecstatic that it got selected for matchmaking here. I agree that it’s nice to have a vehicle in a 4v4 arena map once again. Looks absolutely beautiful too with it’s re-imagined asymmetrical H3 Isolation theme. 9/10 - VESTIGE - Initially I wasn’t the biggest fan of this map, but it has grown on me the more I’ve played it. It’s seems pretty solid, but I wouldn’t put it above Analogue. 7/10

After playing a bit of the maps, I agree. Most of the maps are pretty great but Furnace is a tad frustrating with a smaller range motion tracker and long sight lines. It’s a nice looking map though
