Community Playdates (Ideas Needed)

I’ve been mulling over an idea for a bit of time now and I wanted to run it by you all to get you opinions.

I’m proposing that we start our own playdates within the community either on a weekly or bi-weekly basis.

I’ve already played with a bunch of you from this site, and have had quite the enjoyable time doing so. Obviously I wouldn’t mind everyone else being able to join in on the fun, so why not make it a regular thing? Since we are all here sharing our love for Halo, why not start up something besides the forums that allow us to interact with one another?

First and foremost, would any of you be interested in something like this?

If so, what day / time of day would suit your needs best?

Hopefully this is something that will grow over time and lead to bigger and better things. If it gains enough popularity, who knows what it could happen. I don’t know about you all, but I’d love to see the Halo Waypoint community hosting a Community Playdate with the rest of Xbox LIVE and have our names show up on the dashboard.

Let me know what you think.

id certainly be interested xD

as for when i wouldnt be able to,
answer is anytime xD

lol no lifee D:

Im up for getting my butt handed to me rather handily, especially from the good folks here.

I think a community playdate is an excellent idea. I would think that either Thursday, Friday, or Saturday might work best for most people, however I would open to doing any day of the week.

It would be a good way for everyone from the forums to get to know each other and introduce more folks to the Waypoint community.

I’d be totally up for playing more with the waypoint community, the old WCCN were great fun & it would be awesome to get some regular nights going!

I could definitely say I’m in for once a week or fortnight to start with, so that it feels more like a playdate rather than just a regular time we’re all online (does that make sense?) and playing some customs as well as community BTB or classic slayer would be fun.

As for times, I am guessing that most people are going to be from the US, so I will have to get my redbull out to keep me playing deep into the night as I am on GMT so if there could be occasional concessions made on start times so that the European people dont miss out, that would be nice

I’m up, I’m usually open on Fridays.

So it’s looking like (so far) the weekends work best? That actually makes plenty of sense.

What do you think about setting a date in stone? Weekend of the 16th is too soon, the weekend after is Easter - celebrated by some, then there’s the first weekend in May. Just a hair under 3 weeks from now. Think that’s enough time to rally at least 8 troops? I think we can make it work.

Again, I leave it to you.

Hey one question regarding multi-player that I dont quite get. Is Reach online different from H3 online? If so, I guess playdates would have to coordinate with game versions, correct? The reason I ask is I currently do not have Reach but relaize it is the current modus operandi of the community here. Let me know as I had a bit of a timeline towards purchasing Reach, I can bump it up if need be.

I love the idea

And generally weekend would be best, IMO.

I’m not opposed to playing Halo 3 again. I’m sure if we could, there’d be a Halo 2 Community Night. We just need to decide as a group what works best for us.

The weekend of the 30 April / 1 May works for me, for either Friday or Saturday afternoon / evening depending on times and I know of a few people who dont frequent the forums so much who will almost certainly play and I can get them in to sign up so we’re more sure on numbers?

Has anyone had any thoughts on times? Are evenings better for people than daytime?

The time might be the biggest issue, as it seem the folks here are nearly global.

Some interplanetary…

But as noted, the timing usually sucks for me. My playtime is usually during European or Asian primetimes, I’m an hour from Buffalo in Canada… so ya. If there ever is a time when I’m on (I think I get a 1 week shutdown next week… ya!!! I get to have some full day gaming if so), then yoink! ya I’m down for some playing. Remember, it’s only fun and games until someone get’s struck down. Then it’s a blood sport

I’m not sure if I’d be in for a Halo3 game… but who knows, depends on the mood that day.

I’d like a selection of maps and gametypes that would cycle through marksman, corridor, vehicular and total chaos gameplay… if you know what I mean? A few games where the intent is to play at least semi-seriously and a few where we leave our egos at the loading screen because we’re trying to do some crazy-yoink!.. You know, Halo gaming  Sometimes FTW, others FTLOLs, always FTFun

Im up for it and the playlist i suggest is Cat and mouse which i have. Everytime i pull this game out with a decent sized custom game and its a thrill ride! trying to not get splattered and those moments where you just sneak by the cats! you cant beat it.

Reaper,

No worries, just more of an excuse to finally take the plunge into Reach.

Alright, since no one really has any qualms with that weekend, let’s go ahead and set it up.

Being that this is the first time and all, I’m thinking we stick with Reach. There will be a good variety of game types available. No worries there. We can bounce back from matchmaking to customs to keep it fresh and fun.

I propose a start time of, eh, noon. This way people that are located in GMT zones can play for a bit as well. (Don’t worry, I can see this thing lasting for a while. Saturdays/Sundays are usually my days to just park it in front of the TV for all day and night gaming sessions. And I’m sure I can convince a couple regulars in here to join in on the fun.)

Don’t worry if the start time is too early - we can work on this to make it manageable for everyone. Plus, I see this thing running for more than a couple hours.

So what works better, Saturday the 30th or Sunday the 1st? We’ve almost got it whittled down.

wait, which weekend?

> wait, which weekend?

My apologies. Fixed now. 30th/1st. 3 weeks away.

Hmm, guess I’ll have to wait for the next one

Aw, where will you be?!
