In a World…Where players create their own Spartans…
Imagine if we could do community coatings?? Like, if 343 launched a program where you could create a pattern/wear/color scheme/material etc, and then 343 would pick the top five most-liked ones from the community, hold a vote for which one is most popular and then it gets added to the game’s pass! I think that’d be pretty neat. Could do the same for Weapon and Vehicle coatings? Not to take away from the talent at 343 who make the coatings of course.

I feel like this would be hard to port onto console but could be very cool on PC using steam’s community market
That would be sick, so many great Halo artists could create some incredible looking coatings.

Maybe not the best example but I see Warframe doing it all the time, they call it Tennogen. Pretty cool stuff!

Why couldn’t those skins just be included in a game update, it would fix that problem.

If it were a thing, I feel like a emblem and/or special coating (like Fire Unicorn) would be more likely.

That’s an awful idea. There’s a lot of people who aren’t artsy who probably would never bother to try getting their armor coating picked over millions of others and miss out on a helmet. Maybe the armor coating is exclusive to the winner if they were silly enough to go through with this. But armor pieces exclusive? That’d be a bother for people who want to collect all the armor. If that’d be the final piece they’re missing and it’s just up to random chance and they’d have to keep producing a new armor coating every time this rolls around, people are gonna just get mad. 343’s entire stance on armor is for it to be earned by playing the game. They won’t do that.

I was talking more of a Halo 3 era Recon Helmet, one that doesn’t show up in game as obtainable, rather granted to players for some some kind of contribution. And there would be nothing stopping 343 from making it available to all at a later date.
As for being artsy, I imagine in would be more of like a Paint-By-Numbers mini game app on Waypoint, where you pick sections to be each colour, patterns, and materials.
If it required people to crack out the Photoshop in order to enter, they probably wouldn’t get as much participation. Also a contest based on ‘upload jpeg here’ has the potential to be highly abused.

If it worked like Recon, then I could maybe see it happening if it were to become a thing and people could get their hands on it at a later date. But rather, if this is something people would want, probably the best way to implement this would be for an armor coating contest to happen with the community and whoever’s coating gets picked, is then distributed free for all players. I don’t think they’d be able to stick it in a battlepass that we have to pay for and the person who created that coating not compensated. So if they enter and get picked for free, perhaps the coating is given away to all for free and the winner gets a timed exclusive helmet so long as it’s eventually made available to everyone else. That’s the only possible way I can see this event happening and being able to slide.
