Community based Custom Game-Mode Labartory

Like making Halo Custom Game types?

Can’t seem to find any lab rats (I mean avid volunteers) to help test them out?

Looking for fun game modes to play with your friends or like-minded people?

If you answered ‘Yes’ to the above questions (or some of them anyway) hopefully this post will serve as a hub where the community can advertise their game-mode creations, get people to share and critic them, and hopefully make some friends along the way.

So:

If you have a game mode in your file-share you want tested, post a reply in the following format.

Game-mode name:

Halo version:
Game type used:
Category: Competitive / Action Sack
Number of required players:
Teams: Yes / No

Description:
Requires novel Forge map: Yes / No
Novel maps required: (list them)
Recommended maps (non-forge):

Description:

(sell it here, but keep it nice and concise.)

Type of test requested:

(Try and break it, Balancing, etc…)

Date since last updated:

Edit Log: (edit your posts and update a log of changes to the game type.)

If you find something you like, message the author of your interest in the mode and arranging a lab session. The author can then message lab rats and organize testing times. Message constructive criticisms to authors.

Also, reciprocation goes a long way, so help others and they will help you.

I hope this post is useful to players.

(Consider this both a submission and an example)

Game-mode name: Flash CTF

Halo version: Halo 4
Game type used: Capture The Flag
Category: Action Sack (A bit of fun)
Number of required players: 6-10
Teams: Yes

Description:

A fast and frantic CTF mode where players can use a concussion rifle and Thruster pack to bounce themselves, team-mates, and enemies across the map. Melee is an instant kill. Flag carriers gain a slight speed and modest jump height increase, but have reduced health. Only mongooses are allowed in this game-mode and they are indestructible, allowing for passengers and enemies bounce them. Friendly fire is disable and allows allies to bounce team-mates doing no damage for increase air-time and strategy. Flag at home requirement is activated. There is no ordinance in this game mode (is subject to review).

Requires novel Forge map: No
Novel maps required: N/A
Recommended maps: Large scale maps (Vortex, Exile, Longbow etc)

Type of test requested:

Simple play-testing on many different maps with a full party and even teams. Would like to see if some team strategies break the mode, and help with player trait balancing. Please message me with constructive criticism. I will arrange for a lab session if enough interest is gained.

Did some sleuthing and found a community already doing the above, (was hard to find)

I have a gametype that I’ve already tested extensively, so I’ll just leave this here as advertising.

Game-mode name: Alien vs. Predator
(Link to game-mode)

Halo version: Halo 4
Game type used: Flood
Category: Flood with a little bit of Action Sack
Number of required players: 6-10
Teams: It’s Flood, so you decide.

Description:
A revamp of the Flood gametype that places you in the shoes of two of the most iconic Sci-Fi characters. Humans take on the role of the Predators while the Flood are the bloodlusty, fast-spreading Xenomorphs.

Predators spawn with Binary Rifles, Energy Swords and Pulse or Plasma grenades based on your loadout choice. They have permanent Camo and infinite Promethean Vision, but no motion tracker. Predators are also more agile than standard humans. Their goal is to kill as many Aliens as they can, while keeping themselves hidden. Ordnance on the map as well as Personal Ordnance are enabled for Predators, and are modified to offer the complete non-human arsenal of Halo 4. I made sure that every weapon is useful as well, even the Plasma Pistol. :3

Aliens are very similar to default Flood. They have access to the default Flood loadouts, including the infamous Thruster Pack. However Thruster Pack is no longer the all-powerful choice, though still useful. Promethean Vision and Camo are very useful counter-abilities against the Predators. ProVision allows you to see careless Predators trough walls for a short amount of time. Active Camo allows the Aliens to stay hidden from the Predator’s view while crouch walking or not moving. Finally, I have tweaked the gravity settings so that Thruster Pack is nerfed a little bit.

Aliens have motion trackers, so if you’re playing as a Predator you have to be carefull not to reveal your location. Crouch walking will allow you to stay hidden from motion trackers and Promethean Vision. Try to find the right mix of stealth and combat to be a more efficient hunter!

I think AvP offers a new way to play Flood. The tactics you’d use in normal Flood are now completely turned around. An example of gameplay change is that humans and Flood both have Energy Swords, which often results in Sword-clashes.

Requires novel Forge map: No
Recommended maps: Medium-sized maps. Due to gravity tweaks I would advice against maps that rely on gravity lifts i.e. Haven and Adrift.
Personal Recommendations: Abandon, Solace and Landfall.

Type of test requested:
As I said I have already tested the gamemode, done a lot of tweaks and I’m confident of its balance. The last update I’ve done to the gamemode was in januari and I haven’t run into any obvious issues since. I’m considering on turning off the instant respawn and killcam though. Nonetheless feedback is always appreciated.

Edit: Killcams and IR removed. Also tweaked Flood damage to make Overshield more useful.

Sounds pretty rad, I haven’t been playing a lot of Halo 4 lately but I’ll test this out if I have the chance. Maybe I can get a lobby together around easter weekend.

Another tip if you can’t find testers: just go into Flood and invite recent players. The people there are usually into custom games and willing to play some of them.
