Communication ban or just no mic's?

Most people don’t plug them in until they hear someone talk. Just give them shout outs and eventually you’ll come across someone ready to do the same.

Gone are the days of the 360 lobby chat

I’ve found this to be the case. At the start of every game (if I’m queing solo) I’ll ask if anyone has a mic. Usually it’s radio silence, but sometimes you’ll get one or two others to turn theirs on and communicate. Even if I’m the only one with a mic, I still call out enemies and try to coordinate pushes to varying degrees of success. Most of the time though I just use the “Looking for Group” feature on Xbox to find a team to play with because it really is quick and easy to do and makes the game so much more enjoyable.

I think a big problem with mics these days is that the consoles don’t come with one anymore. Everyone was talking on H3 and Reach because every 360 came with a mic. Now that it’s just another extra piece of equipment to buy, a lot of people just don’t want to spend the extra money for the privilege to communicate in online games.

I don’t know if it is this

I think the main difference with 360 and XB1 onwards was the change to the party system. On 360 gamechat was fine - you only really engaged with party chat if someone was in a different game or lobby. Every game had pre and post game lobbies too so everyone would talk for ages whilst a game loaded up in the background. Now though, games go to a short load screen and chat is interrupted during this process unless you are in party chat - where the chat continues unhindered.

People need to switch to gamechat more often but the quality is just better when the chat remains private so they mostly don’t.

Personally I’d like them to make the default chat preference “game chat bleedthrough” so that the party was merely a way to continue communicating if you get booted or hit a load screen, but anyone in your game can also communicate with the party and vice Versa.

This way people can privatise their chats with a toggle rather than it being private by default. What the default is set by could be directly linked to parental settings (teen, adult, kid, etc)

Also…I want pre and post game lobbies, it is what made multiplayer so social in the first place
