I remember Frankie saying before the games release that “Most players don’t care about a ranking system, they just play for fun”. And no, I can’t remember where I read it.
That is just an absolute lack of common sense. Sure, a lot of people don’t care about ranks. But a lot of people do, and it’s mainly the people who will spend the most time playing the game
I know they are adding it to waypoint, but why not just make it visible in game? It will have no effect on the people who don’t care about rank, but the competitive Halo players will love it and play more as a result.
Look at Black Ops 2. I think Treyarch really got it right. Not only is their a rank for winning, but there is also an individual rank. And, when you press back/select, you can see everyone’s kills, deaths, and KDR, which I like.
I don’t understand why bungie with reach and now 343 with Halo 4 are so stubborn with this ranking system… I mean I know selling accounts was a problem… but you know why people sold accounts? Because they CARED ABOUT THEIR RANK and as a result PLAYED THE GAME MORE.
Main thing I’m trying to point out is COD has 5 times as many players on right now… and that’s just for the xbox. COD is more popular, but it should not have 5 times as many players at any point during the day.
I would still be playing Halo PC if it wasn’t so laggy. Ranks are just an annoyance and a job.
I would have more fun without worrying about having to camp every game so I don’t hurt my K/D. I would enjoy the game a lot more without ranks.
Progression systems are just an excuse for stale gameplay. They are there to keep people playing the mediocre game. Halo 3 customs never got old, neither has TF2, neither is really ranked.
Incentive to de-level. Some people would after time want to de-level/cause pain to others, so they would jump off the map in order to guarantee a loss.
Having the rank visible on waypoint only, would reduce the “bragging” or these incentives to show off a cheated rank.
The only reason to have the rank visible is to show it off/see what your opponent is immediately. Which can be argued is not necessary.
The rank visible through waypoint is a compromise to prevent problems that are associated with rank as well as giving a goal to strive for.
This is probably some of the reasoning behind rank on waypoint. Obviously not all.

> Yes, I have. I’ve played the campaign quite a bit, and just played the multiplayer for the first time today. Only did combat training though.

> I’m not saying BO2 is better- Halo 4 is actually my favorite game of all time. I’m just annoyed with all these bugs/dumb decisions by 343.
I hear the multiplayer for Black Ops 2 isn’t very good. I haven’t played it myself.
Be patient with 343i, they have the manpower and resources to fix things, now all they need is time.
Personally, when I got bored of the goo’ old fun of BTB or other playlists in Halo 3, I would go to Lone Wolves. Highly Competitive and fun when your on your “ace” gaming streak. It added depths to the entitre multiplayer, considering that there were two list saying: Ranked -or- Social. So when your got bored of Exteme competitiveness, there was the other half of Halo 3 just waiting for you.
Frank honestly doesnt know what he’s saying, mainly because he is not a gamer himself (or so I have been lead to beleive as of recently). Nor does 343 for that fact.
It just gets annoying when you have people playing competitivly as possible, screaming at you for not doing what they want you to do.
