Need help getting my head around the Commendations don’t know what they do or what they’re for. HELP Please

The Commendations are like personal challenges that have unlimited time and they update after you finish it.
For example: You want to complete the Assasult Rifle Commendation so it tells you how many enemies you have to kill with that weapon, once you reach the goal, it will update until you reach the challenge’s Master level and finish it.
It’s also worth mentioning that commendations are an excellent way of earning XP toward leveling up.
Well, for starters finishing them will give you XP upon completion, they unlock new armor customization options, new emblems, stances and other unlocks.

organize yourself and stick to one weapon, vehicle, objective etc. at one time and persist on completing them one by one.
