To preface this, I dislike the REQ system in halo 5 and would have liked halo 5 had the system not existed.
With that out of the way, I think commendations should make a return in Infinite - The main reason I have for this is because they give players an additional thing to strive towards and act somewhat like challenges with rewards tied to them - I feel like if they were implemented correctly and maybe varied more than they did in halo 5 (more types of commendations than just ‘play/kill x amount of times’ (possibly campaign commendations and medal commendations tied to total amount of specific medal) ) they would be very good for the long term life of halo infinite’s multiplayer - They would serve as an additional source for rewards and would incetivise trying modes and campaign difficulties a player may not have wanted to try otherwise. Of course I know how much people dislike halo 5 in general but I feel like commendations were one of the better features found within the game. Just wondering what the rest of the community thinks about commendations and whether or not they belong in a game like halo infinite.

I fail to see the relevance of your preface to the rest of the post unless you’re trying to argue the H5 commendation system is entirely linked to the req system.
For me the Reach commendation system is the high bar. Splitting the commendations by mode gives something for everyone to chase - even people who don’t want to play multiplayer so much.
What H5 lacks is that variety and I hope Infinite will right that

Ah yeah the preface is kinda pointless but originally i think i wrote it just because some commendations reward you with req packs and req packs are micros - Besides that I do agree if commendations were to make a return it’d be great to see them in a similar form to Reach. It would be cool to see them varied like mentioned across all of the modes properly as the halo 5 commendations didnt encourage playing forge or campaign at all (even if campaign was objectively bad) and I felt like they were all quite similar in nature.
The praise of H5 is good to a certain extent only that they were poorly executed, I must emphasize that they are not the best, in my opinion those of reach if he knew how to execute them quite well since it gives the player the purpose to continue playing … I hope that praise in infinite is implemented in a better way I want to live within the game
They have already stated in December’s Inside Infinite the system in Halo 5 will not be returning to Infinite. They stated they don’t want any randomness in rewards and that they have a new system for Infinite. Here are some quotes from that article regarding that.
> Yes, being free-to-play does mean that there will be some premium cosmetics, but players will still obtain tons of customization content through things like playing campaign, challenges, skill, special events, legacy rewards (such as the Halo 5 SR 152 reward), the progression system, and more.
> - Unambiguous Value. If someone invests their time or money in the game, they should understand what they’re getting and that it will be worth more than the investment. Examples of this in practice include no lootboxes, either through engagement or any premium route. And we’re not selling power or giving an unfair advantage in-game via any route.

Yes totally agree.
To be honest… looking back… it’s not even that the Reach or Halo 4 commendations were that much more interesting: they were just more varied or grouped weapons so instead of needing to grind kills with a storm rifle/brute plasma you got progress for all automatic weapons. Just more player friendly that way
