For those who played Halo Reach, you will remember a small thing called Commendations. I was playing Reach earlier just to see how it is compared to newer Halo Games (Halo 4, and H2 Anniversary). I was looking at my profile and saw commendations and remembered how I would go in some games and focus on maxing specific ones out. It made me use other weapons that I wouldn’t normally use and therefore made the game a bit more challenging. I know a lot of people didn’t care about stuff like that but simple features like that are nice. Anyone else welcome the idea of putting Commendations into Halo 5?

I actually hate them, because it made people focus on using specific weapons to accomplish individual goals instead of doing what it takes to help the team win. People added unnecessary challenges to matches by using weapons in the wrong situations…

Hence the arguement specific vs generalized commendations ie. DMR, BR, LR, CC, NR vs Precision Weapons… they needed Onyx -Max/Mastery count needs to obviously be larger but it would avoid the negative parts about focusing on certain weapons… however… in my opinion the specific mastery was the exact amount to actually get a mastery or decent exposure to every weapon in the sandbox, teaching players how the spread, range, power, accuracy all work.
So I might want to see specific weapons commedations, common weaponry should require more, while power weapons with less ammunition and appearances should be less. ie Halo 4 Weapon Commendations.

I see your point with that. However, if someone is using a weapon purely because they want to max it out, and it’s counter productive, then you are more than likely dealing with an inexperienced player. Just because I want to max out my needler, doesn’t mean I’m going to run into every battle with it. Will I play differently to get more kills with it? Yes I will, however if it is going to cost me the game, I’d gladly use the weapons I’m best at using. Without commendations, people use those types of weapons a lot just to use them. Commendations may increase the usage of that but if that’s how a player wants to play, then so be it. You wont be able to stop them from playing that way with or without Commendations.

Power weapon commendations should be less. No reason why Rockets should have the same mastery requirement as a Battle Rifle or Assault Rifle. Sniper Rifle can because it is a weapon with more rounds and can result in a lot of kills.

Not only were they a grind, they promoted terrible playstyles that lacked skill. Any commendation that required “x amount” of grenade or melee kills negatively impacts multiplayer for as long as the commendation is up.
