Commands For Vehicle Passages

So I’ve kind of had this idea since the release of the Master Chief Collection. I’m sure everyone has experienced the struggle of being the gunner or passenger in a vehicle like a warthog and being victim to a lack of communication between you and the driver. Depending on the match and game type, you may want your driver to do different things such as speed up, slow down, drive by the enemy base for some offensive pressure, or hang back and defend an objective. Now this problem can be mitigated with the use of mics, but in reality, not everyone uses
them and there is no in-game prompt to communicate to the driver and tell them what you want.

So my idea is fairly simple. As a passenger of a vehicle, you could send prompts or messages to the driver by using the d pad. 4 simple commands for each direction- inputting right or left tells your driver to speed up or slow down, and inputting up or down tells the driver to go on the offensive or defensive. I think this would be the most concise and effective way to do this. As far as communicating the signals, I thought of two possible methods. The first is a simple call out by the Spartan, similar to how they call out enemy locations and how they picked up a sniper in any other match. The second method would be a simple graphic pops up on screen with either text or symbols indicating what the passenger inputted. This may prove distracting though when trying to navigate the map.

So what does everyone think? I think it’s a fairly solid idea which will better communication and invoke more teamwork. What do you guys think? I realize it’s not exactly aligned with classic halo mechanics, but it’s just a little idea.

Drivers watch the environment and the gunners shield - when in danger, a good driver gets his gunner out of harms way.

Gunners can give a quick burst in a specific direction to let the driver know he’s spotted the enemy.

Pushing additional inputs while driving or gunning would be a disaster for me.

Its not a bad idea. Its not like we really use the d-pad anyways. Maybe a small addition would be cool. Also maybe some commands when you are foot.
