The commando needs less hits to kill or a bigger magazine. currently it takes a minimum of 7 shield hits and a headshot to kill. the pistol take 6 shield hits and a headshot to kill. landing all of those shots isn’t easy to do either, you need perfect tracking and the random spread has to be in your favor. if you start tap firing then you would literally be better off using the pistol.
So I propose having a much bigger magazine or a higher damage output to at least put it on par with the sidekick. the bigger magazine would mean misses wouldn’t be so unforgiving. as the commando is now you spend most of your time topping off the magazine, because there isn’t much leniency for misses, and you can forget about getting a double kill with it, because you have a margin of error of 4 shots.
I’ve gotten maybe 6 kills with the commando in about 10 hours of playing, it’s not worth using over the AR, BR, or pistol. It can join the pulse carbine in the trash were it belongs.
I can agree the commando and pulse carbine are very mediocre, and I never intentionally go for them on controller, but based on people above and my friends on mouse keyboard, I’ll test them on mouse and see if it’s just bad for controllers due to slow aim
Yeah I feel like the battle rifle and pistol have homing/aim assist for controller but the commando doesn’t and the damage also feels like it’s not as high as it should be for it’s clip size and semi auto single fire (vs burst) nature.
Big key is especially vs a battle rifle (in ranked) it should FEEL powerful when you pick it up and it just doesn’t.
It’s basically unusable to me, especially on controller, the last time I used it I had my crosshair trained on someone at a fair range and the bloom just decided all of my shots were not going to hit the head and the guy got away, very unsatisfying and I don’t even bother picking up the gun anymore, the AR seems more effective.
To be clear I REALLY want to like the commando it’s my style of gun but the current iteration of it in-game is a mess… Just give it the same in-game behavior as the old DMR and call it a day.
Recoil is only there on controller. And it is horrendous on the Commando and Sentinel Beam in particular. I’m not a huge fan of it on the BR either but at least it’s entirely controllable on it.
It’s like trying to fire a fully automatic Reach DMR. The bloom and recoil are absolutely obscene. I could dump a mag and be facing upside down if your camera angle didn’t stop when pointed directly upwards. They need to either get rid of bloom on it and decrease recoil by a good bit, or keep bloom and just get rid of recoil entirely. I mean, canonically Spartans aren’t even supposed to feel recoil.
The Commando was awesome in the flights, especially in the BTB flight. I almost preferred it to the BR. But it already kinda felt like it took one too many shots to kill. Nerfing it to an 8-shot perfect kill and the seemingly increased recoil has made it just about useless. It takes forever to kill someone. Most of the time you’ll get their shields down just in time for them to get behind cover.
A real shame. It was shaping up to be one of my favorite weapons. I hope they change it back to flight status.
It is not easy to use, but if you ever give it another chance try only tapping with it, like you would with the sid kick, it’s a pretty decent mid range weapon.
My biggest issue with the VK78 Commando is it’s high spread [bloom]. Having to be so accurate (with the low aim assist), having to be so controlling (with the heavy recoil), along with having to be so lucky (with its high spread) is just asking for too much.
I think the weapon’s bloom should be removed and replaced with an alternative solution that can be used to balance it at further ranges such as by slowing down bullet velocity, adding damage drop-off, or increasing its recoil, etc.
