Combining the Half-life and Halo stories

The Combine in HL are the Precursors, the Advisers are young Precursors who have self evolved themselves into the simplified forms they are now. We know the Combine have extra dimensional travel and occupy multiple parallel universes already, so it makes perfect sense that they can occupy the ‘Halo’ universe as well as the HL universe. The Xen lifeforms are like the Flood in that they were biologically engineered by the Precursors. Unlike the Flood, the Xen lifeforms were discarded as failures and placed together on the Xen home world until the Resonance Cascade occurred, teleporting a large amount of them to Earth where they helped break down human society as the Combine quickly assumed control. Gordon destroyed the Nihilanth, the overlord of Xen, allowing the Combine to tame their creations once again. The G-Man, having access to Precursor technology, uses his seemingly nigh-omnipotent powers to travel constantly between universes to make sure all the events go according to plan. For some strange reason, the Precursors are bent on making humans the holders of the mantle in the ‘Halo’ universe, while keeping them down in the ‘Half-life’ universe. Eventually, G-man meets with Master Chief for the first time, just as he did with Gordon and Shepard, and gives him similarly vague, ominous messages about certain events that are about to unfold.

What this accumulates in is the Precursors returning to their original universe using the human experimental technology of the Half-Life universe. The rest of Earth is caught in the effect however, and brought along. Certain unforeseen consequences may involve the re-emergence of the Flood, which may combine with the Xen lifeforms that are brought in by Precursors (the Flood fuse with the headcrabs to create a new kind of parasite) and a cosmic moral and political dilemma involving who is the enemy and who is ally and what the Precursors’ true initiative is for their seemingly contradictory history and philosophies.

Update:
This is what happens. Well, long ago, when the Forerunners apparently vanquished the Precursors, in reality, using their tier 0 technology the remaining Precursors fled to an alternate dimension where physics and time differ from the ‘Haloverse’. There, they began the development of the ultimate bioweapon, which would eventually take the form of the Flood infection. However, the failed experiments were contained to a floating cavernous mass of rocks, which would come to be known as the Xen homeworld, the headcrabs were the last failed experiment before the invention of the Flood, explaining their similar parasitic nature. A compound designed to spark the Floods creation was transported back into the Precursor’s home dimension, which it was discovered by humans and eventually evolved into what we know now as the Flood menace. However, the Precursors did not plan to devastate the universe with their weapon, instead they had a much more mysterious motive. Without enough power left to return the entirety of their species to their home dimension, the Precursors sought an alternative gateway. In an alternate dimension, where Earth exists much as it does in the “Haloverse” but at a different time, Gordon triggers the Resonance Cascade, allowing the lifeforms of Xen as well as the Precursors to enter their dimension. The Precursors, at this point self-evolved into giant larva like beings, begin to quickly take over Earth and convert humanity into a makeshift army of soldiers, their highly superior intelligence and technology making it easy to manipulate and use their Xen bioweapons as well as the primitive humans. A small resistance containing Gordon Freeman and others such as Alyx Vance somehow manages to interfere however. The Combine’s interest lies in an experimental teleportation technology developed by Aperture Science under the code name “Borealis” which they believe will allow them to return to their home dimension where the UNSC and the Covenant exists and complete their mysterious objective. When they activate this technology, Gordon Freeman and other members of the human resistance get caught in the effect, and enter this new dimension with them and a large amount of Xen lifeforms. The Precursors reawaken the Flood, which absorb the headcrabs and fuse their DNA together, creating even more powerful Floodcrab infection forms that create incredibly strong combat forms. Gordon and Master Chief become the main characters in this new battle, which is fought between a giant variety of alien creatures. Many Voritgaunts are enslaved by the Covenant and used in the war.

Also, G-man is a human from yet another alternate dimension, who has been recruited by the Precursors for some mysterious reason and given reality altering powers as well as the legendary item ‘the Organon’ which is what he carries in his briefcase. He sees to it that Gordon Freeman and other essential individuals to their goal are kept in line and don’t stray from their predictions. Ultimately, when everything is in place, G-man is tasked with activating the Organon, which will activate all Precursor artifacts in the universe (similar to the Halo effect), in turn accomplishing what the Precursors/Combine secretly planned for billions of years. Creating God.

The Borealis could be what brings Gordon into the Halo universe, and the Combine want it because it would allow them to return to it, seeing as they fled so many years ago from the Forerunner onslaught they might have lost a lot of their structure and technology, and now want to use this to return to their homeworld in the Haloverse so they may regain dominance over that universe.

Dayoink I just read?

The Combine are even said to have the ability to travel between parallel universes it all makes sense! The Precursors from the Halo universe escaped being destroyed by the Forerunners by traveling to a parallel universe with their most advanced technology, where they began to take control of the humans they created. Perhaps, after entering the HL universe they seed Earth once again with life? Or perhaps there were Precursors in this universe as well that seeded human life. Either way they wait, for a long long time until the resonance cascade occurs and then come down to assume control of their creation, but its all part of a plan, to finally take down the Forerunners in their home universe and allow humanity to assume the mantle as humanity is easier to control, and then disappear once again, to enact their final plan, even more sinister than their tyranny on Earth in the Half-Life universe.

G-man is one of the main people driving these events forward, his origins are mysterious and tied in with his relation to the precursors. Master Chief, Gordon and perhaps Shepard and various other “important” individuals are part of his/their plan.

The Borealis, the Aperture science research vessel which apparently contains powerful teleportation technology could be what once again breaks the rift between universes and connects the Half-Life universe and the Halo universe. The Precursors use it to travel back to their home world located somewhere outside the Milky Way and Gordon finds himself being interrogated by the UNSC, telling his story and what he knows about the new aliens that have appeared. He becomes a Spartan (orange armor with a lamda symbol) and joins up with Master Chief to try and figure out this new mysterious cosmic predicament.

And what else could be in G-Man’s suitcase, other than…the Organon.

| OP while the over all idea sounds nice; I don’t think this would be good for anything other that a fan-based mash up of two of their favorite series. I honestly couldn’t see it coming to fruition as an actual game series.

No I think it could be more than that. The new universe created from this fusion would have so much variety in enemies and open up so many possibilities. It’s also so fitting for there to be such a insane and unpredictable turn of events no one would see this coming and it would all make sense. Think of what could be gained by merging these IPs into one, I think it would work better than Alien vs Predator and would be far more interesting.

However I wholeheartedly disagree, and will stand by my previous reply.

You should agree, it would be amazing, adding the Xen enemies as well as all the sci-fi elements of the Half-Life universe into the Halo universe would make it so much more expansive and interesting, especially done in this fashion, it would all tie together very nicely and last but not least bring 2 gaming icons together in one game, Master Chief and Gordon Freeman, it was just meant to happen.

And I don’t know how to contact anyone about my other thread.

I’m sorry but Freeman and Chief in one story is a big no no.

No its not explain no one ever explains I’m like the only one who ever explains -Yoink-.

I’m still serious about this, these series would combine awesomely and then we can be fighting so many different alien types.

> What this accumulates in is Gordon eventually … becoming outfitted in Spartan armor and fighting alongside Master Chief in undercover missions to stop the “unforeseen consequences” from occurring

I stopped reading there.

Ok, they told me to just update my old thread with the new information, so that’s what I did, don’t be mad, read it you’ll see its a great idea even though its -Yoinking!- insane.

I’m not mad, I’m confused. Are you trying to make a fan fic story or are you seriously trying to argue that these two universes are compatible?

I’m arguing these universes are compatible. I do think it would be a good addition to the Halo canon, characters like G-man and the Combine are fittingly mysterious and the Xen lifeforms would add a more animal like side to the enemy forces lacking with the Covenant, Prometheans, and even the Flood combat forms. It also comes down to the fact it would be really cosmic, unpredictable, and heady which is what the future of Halo needs to be. You guys think I’m crazy, that’s good, you want the mysteries not yet solved to be like that, as long as they make sense, which this does.

If I was given creative control over this area, I know I could do really cool and fun things with all the different aliens at my disposal. Plus the Halo wiki would suddenly become massive.

Excuse while I go vomit a little. You sound like the Primordial, “lets mash similar but unrelated things together for -Yoink- with the potential for giggles.”

No, just no, all of it no.

Be grateful that you have two unique game universes where unique and different stories can be evolved and played out, or be silent.

That isn’t what I’m saying, I’m saying the universes can actually work together and their concepts won’t overlap in a negative way and instead compliment and merge together to create stronger concepts and a more complex and interesting story about these Precursors and what they’ve been up too. There’s so much stuff that makes sense and seeing as you didn’t cover anything I’ve said I’m going to assume you didn’t read everything and even if you did you probably aren’t smart enough to put it together like I did, sorry.

Questioning someones intelligence on a forum is one of the lower things you can sink to when someone disagrees with you. I’d defend myself but that would be pointless, lets just say I graduated with honors after writing a 96 page paper on some ruins.

The universes do not fit together seamlessly, at all. Mainly because you have to insert dimensional travel and time travel. Which may be possible for Precursors but, as of yet, has not been listed as their abilities. You’ve had to infer unstated abilities to a race that we virtually know nothing about. Your theory is fan-boy logic and your stance is clouded by the false sense of worth you’ve placed on it.

The Combine have been stated to have dimensional travel, and the Precursors are supposed to be the highest tier of technology possible, its fitting that they have access to such technology. Also, where else did they mysteriously disappear to? The Forerunners couldn’t have just completely wiped out a civilization so much more advanced then them. And then the backstory of the Flood supports this too, no one knows where that compound came from its just suddenly turned up, where did it come from? Probably another dimension, it just makes sense. Is your mind really so straight forward that’s all you can come up with that it doesn’t fit well after I’ve drawn so many possible connections that could be made. Of course they aren’t written together yet but that isn’t my point, the fact is they could be, and that would enrich the characters, background, and story elements. I’m not going to type another 30 paragraphs for you if you can’t read what I wrote and comprehend it enough to give me a valid point why my idea is so bad it makes you “vomit”, talk about being low when you result to insults when your criticism is baseless.
