I was wondering what people would think of 343 Industries adjusting the hitboxes for the Classic Playlist to allow for hitboxes like the ones in Halo: Combat Evolved. One of the biggest complaints from the community has been towards the increase of the size on the hitboxes from Halo: Combat Evolved where you can essentially graze the hair of the chin of a fellow Spartan and still not hit him/her. Personally, I’d like to see this come back if not just for this playlist/only in this playlist. In reality, I’m not sure how well the Pistol will do in the game without the hitboxes being the size they were in Combat Evolved.
Now, I’m not sure if this is even possible. Before they started talking about what is in the Title Update I would have easily marked it off as simply impossible, but they proved they can do many of the things many of us were outright saying was impossible.
Please remember that I only mean this to be a change to the Classic Playlist, not the whole of Reach. I feel that the Combat Evolved experience could never truly be felt if the hitboxes weren’t the same as they were back then.
It’s never been the hit boxes. It’s the Aim assist. But it’s only super high on the sniper. That is what the issue at hand really is. Trust me. If you’re standing point blank and fully zoomed in and just a razors edge away from their head it does not kill them. The sniper almost freezes on an opposing players head when you whip your shots. This is the problem.

The problem is bullet magnetism as well, but thats another thread. The sniper does have a crazy amount of aim assist.
> Larger hit boxes help cover up lag. Halo CE was only ever meant to be played via Lan. Online games need some what of a “buffer”.
That’s not true. Not all online games have large hitboxes and they work fine. Counter-Strike is a great example of that. That’s really just an excuse/lie.
Fisrt, Reach hitboxes are actually much more accurate than in CE- or even Halo 3, and don’t get me started on Halo 2. There’s no real reason to change them back.
Second, models in Reach are much wider and shorter than in CE. Adding CE hotboxes would mean than half of our spartans would not have a hitbox, and the hitbox would be a foot or so higher than the current model. Changing the actual model would be nearly impossible.
> Two problems with this, aside from coding issues.

For the first part, look to my video showing the differences in the hitboxes. The Reach hitboxes are not more accurate by any means what so ever. They are larger than Combat Evolved’s.
What I mean is for the hitboxes to actually wrap around the player models or just be smaller. If anything model them around the largest armor pieces to make it fair or force everyone to use the same armor in the Classic Playlist. Personally, i like the first option the best.

I still see higher accuracy in the Reach. The biggest problem in your video was weapon accuracy. The CE pistol was much more accurate, which 343 is currently working to match.
Again, I see Reach’s hitboxes as being much more accurate. Namely around other parts of the spartan. For example, Reach legs are very accurate, whereas it was very hard to shoot anything between a CE’s spartan’s legs.

It was still evident when I was close range with the DMR pacing my shots. The DMR is more accurate that the Pistol when shots are paced. Also, the accuracy should hardly matter when at those close ranges as well.
Edit: On second thought I didn’t do the up close portion with the DMR/Pistol on Reach. I should test this all out again once the TU is released with the Pistol.
