You launch a weapon off a pad with a plasma grenade and then grab it within 5 seconds and a plasma grenade is the only grenade that works.
Edit: there’s also a SC commendation called oddly specific that requires you to do so.

This is correct. There is also a similar medal called alley oop, which is the same, except a teammate needs to grab the weapon instead of you.
