I’m not sure what to think…
We’ve been asking for the classic art style to return. It seems it has and people are upset???
Also it appears that the sandbox is going to be very large this time around. I think Halo 5 had about 30 weapons. Just from what we’ve seen I’m going to take a guess that Halo Infinite is going to have about 2-3 times that many. Maybe I’m overestimating a bit, but having weapons in game that are called ‘CQS48 Bulldog’ and ‘VK78 Commando,’ rather than simply being called ‘Shotgun’ and ‘Tactical Rifle’ has me wondering.
For the Banished weapons so far we have the Pulse Carbine, Ravager, Mangler, and the Plasma Pistol.
Equipment appears to be back. I have been expecting this with the return of the Brutes and all. The grappling hook seems to be a permanent tool, but I suspect this is not the case. I’m thinking there are two types of equipment; single use, and ones that recharge (like an armor ability). At any time I suspect we could have both, or none at all; which would be really good for Multiplayer
Anyway, those are my thoughts atm.
From an art aspect the only thing that looks classic is chiefs armor. Everything else if fairly cartoony. Human guns look generic. Banished armor texture looks like plastic. Overall a fairly underwhelming reveal.
I do see a lot of classic vibes in the styles but the coloring and texture are just slightly off. They’re missing that rugged look that set this serious vibe.
Agree with you OP… It’s a demo, so obviously it’s not the finished product. But this is literally what fans have been asking for for years. Myself included. And tbh I’d rather have a bit more of a cartoony feel than this hyper realistic trend we’ve been going toward over the last several years with the new art style.
Also any game that brings back equipment will get a lot of points added in my book. I’ve been wanting that back since H3, and it looks like we are getting something along those lines.
I don’t speak for every fan, but this is not what we were asking for. On both an art style and technical perspective, Halo 2 Anniversary honestly looks a lot better. Something about the rendering of this engine and the character designs looks plasticky and weird. So it’s not really the art style that people have an issue with but rather the implementation in engine.
I think everyone should remember the build for the graphics in the demo is likely a code commit from 1-4 month’s ago. That will put the graphics and textures about +6-8 month’s development from what we’re seeing now, which could significantly improve the plasticky look some people are chatting about.
I actually liked a lot of what I saw, and I’m interested to see how it will improve.
One major thing to note, is I think we can expect updates to the campaign to be a lot larger in scale than previous games from the talks of Halo Infinite as a platform.
I wouldn’t say the classic art style has returned at all.
Chief definitely resembles an older look but everything else does not at all. Looks very H4/H2A to me.
It’s an older build for sure so things will change, think it just needs a new layer of detail, some dirt and grit here and there. At the minute everything looks a little too shiny and clean

When we get the opening cinematic for Halo 5, they too were several months out from launch, yet they didn’t change at all in quality. So this worries me that the cartoon look isn’t going away

The textures and rendering could definitely be improved upon and I believe they will be for the final product.
The overall aesthetic of in game assets is nice. One thing I dislike is the look of the Ravager. It is far too square for my liking but everything else looks pretty good.
