I was initially excited to see the colour wheel/hexagon they currently use to showcase armour coating. However… to my dismay, we are not able to customise our armour colours so freely. Instead, we are given preset colours that are entirely uneditable and as a result, trying to stand out individually is proving to be quite difficult (especially with the whole progression system barely giving any armour permutations - especially for free - but this is another issue I have seen MANY posts talk about so moving on).
Throughout all the Halo games armour colouration has been entirely left in our hands from the get-go. But now? If you’re lucky they may release a colour wheel preset you like for free at some point. The colour wheel presets they showcase look as if they should be editable and I don’t see why they can’t be. The colour options look like they could be so much more diverse than anything we have seen in a Halo game before… but in the same hand we’ve been dealt, the presets have made this so frustratingly inhibiting.
To make this matter worse, when you do eventually unlock an armour coating, some of them are unique only to certain armour cores! Why is that? I don’t see any reasonable answer for that. I’ve seen arguments that splitting armour permutations across the individual cores prevent clipping for other armours - stupid argument considering they could have all been built onto the one model but whatever - but I can’t envision a ‘reason’ for colours? It’s… just a few colours?
I’d like to see other people’s thoughts on this issue because I am amazed that I’ve not seen many posts about this being upvoted.
