Colored text: stop

To those who color the text in every single message they make: stop it.
If you crave the attention then write something worth reading, don’t just spam your message with bright colors hoping people will be more inclined to read it.
It’s invasive and it’s worse than capitalizing every character.

I skip every single post that’s wholly colored and suggest to those who don’t do it to do the same.

That is all.

I think you are completely wrong. People don’t customize their colors to try and grab attention, people just enjoy customization and being unique. I have never had an issue with people using colors in there messages. Worry more about the content and not the color…

I fail to see how its invasive and is definitely not worse than capitalizing ever letter. I like the default color and personally there are no other colors I really like other than red (but I use that for updates.)

You cannot tell people to stop changing their colors. Its an option that is given to all of us and we can do what we want with it.

I don’t have a problem with people having different coloured fonts. Hell I would have a different colour if I could find one that fits.

People are just individualizing themselves, or they just really like a certain color. Either way let them be.

How could this possibly get a wee bit annoying ?

Lol just messing with you OP, and while I can see how it would get annoying ive decided to just live with it and not let it bother me. To each their own

Umm, no.

> You cannot tell people to stop changing their colors. Its an option that is given to all of us and we can do what we want with it.

>You’re not my mom, so I can do whatever I want!
Oh really?
You’re also given the option to swear (you have the ability to post messages), yet you don’t do it because it’s against the rules.
What if there was a rule that went like «you shall not attempt to force people to give more importance or priority to your messages by capitalizing every character of its text, coloring it or having shiny emblems next to your massive, throbbing post count [oh wait…]. Post something actually worth reading, or don’t post at all!»?
I’m pretty sure it would piss off a lot of people.

Call me old fashioned, but I think posting anonymously is the best to ensure good or bad content is taken as so, no matter who posted it.
Being that impossible in this case, for obvious reasons, I think restricting attentionW-ing to the maximum would be at least, well, expected.
Or perhaps optional: to have a global option in our Account Settings to disable all colored text. I don’t mind you coloring everything, as long as I don’t have to see it.

Some colours are more likely to catch your attention than others. For example red

Pardon me but I don’t use this colour to crave attention, I think it goes well with my avatar.

It’s an option which we all can use and quite frankly, it’s foolish if you skip a post “because it’s colourized”.

I don’t have a problem with it. It personalizes people.

> Pardon me but I don’t use this colour to crave attention, I think it goes well with my avatar.

And I like this color, it fits my Avatar too.

And I see no problem with people using diffrent colors.

> >You’re not my mom, so I can do whatever I want!

You said it yourself.

Is it just me or is this whole thing ridiculous?
People will always continue to do what they want. The best thing to do in my opinion is to just let them do it. it will either work out in the end or it won’t. That’s for them to decide on their own.

I’m not saying that if something bothers you, don’t do anything about it. You can always make a suggestion, but none of us here can tell someone how they should do something (except mods of course, but that’s something else entirely).

Untill they realize what the consequences are of doing what they want no matter what.

However here we are given the option to choose diffrent colors, so nothing to do about it, because it’s harmless.

PROBLEM?

OT: You are seriously ranting over colored text?
Now i’ve really seen it all…

>

>I’m not saying that if something bothers you, don’t do anything about it. You can always make a suggestion
That’s what I did.

>but none of us here can tell someone how they should do something
I agree, and that didn’t happen. I guess I really hit a nerve on some people, because everyone’s all very agitated and aggressive towards me because I suggested people to stop coloring their text due to its distractive properties, which they might have not been aware of (and no: it does not, in any way, “fit your avatar”).

Anyone can make suggestions however when those suggestions are laid out in a hostile manner, it’s no surprise that people are going to react with more passion than had you simply said,

“The colored text hurts my eyes and it’d be really helpful if people could refrain from using it as much as possible.”

Delivery is key.

That said, there’s no way to keep people from using the text. The only ones I have an issue with are the neon ones (yellow, cyan, etc) because I literally cannot read those. If I come across entire posts in those colors I usually go in and take the color tags out but past that? Meh.

This.

And I don’t see it as a problem because I rarely see people using different colours, and when they do, it’s usually just a dark red that doesn’t affect my eyes or bother me in any way.

You can’t just demand people stop using different colours in their posts because you don’t like it, OP. :S

I think you really need some attention. As for the colored text, it doesn’t matter. It is just another way to customize yourself.

As long as they use one colour (and not, say, 8) and the colour isn’t too bright, I’m fine with it.

> As long as they use one colour (and not, say, 8) and the colour isn’t too bright, I’m fine with it.

Agreed, as long as people just use ONE color! Then I have no problem with it. There has been members who have used as many colors as they could in one post, that’s annoying attention grabbing people.

But people who use one color in their post, they’re not trying to grab the attention of others, it may look like that, but who cares? If they have one color, and they’re not spamming the rainbow, then it’s not a problem. And you telling them to stop using the color they like, is like me telling a tree to stop having green leaves and brown bark.

If the mods and admins say people can use one color for their whole post, then guess what! You, a new member, have very little say as to rather or not someone can pick his/her own color.

> You’re also given the option to swear (you have the ability to post messages), yet you don’t do it because it’s against the rules.

Um… Where in the rules say you’re not allowed to swear?
In fact, where in the rules saying you can’t use any color other than Black as your main text color?

> What if there was a rule that went like «you shall not attempt to force people to give more importance or priority to your messages by capitalizing every character of its text, coloring it or having shiny emblems next to your massive, throbbing post count [oh wait…]. Again, you’re miss judging people, how would you like it if I thought you was a rude little kid, who just wants attention, and wants to act like he/she owns the forums?

> Call me old fashioned, but I think posting anonymously is the best to ensure good or bad content is taken as so, no matter who posted it.

How about this…
NO.

Let people do what they want, it’s not like it’s hurting anybody in any way, nor does it prevent people from reading or understanding the post (there are some exceptions, of course, but that isn’t the case on these forums from what I’ve seen).

You have two options from what I can see. Either you deal with it and keep things happy around here, or you cannot deal with it. If the latter is the option you choose, nobody here is forcing you to have to see these posts, since frequenting the forums is most definitely an optional experience.

> If the mods and admins say people can use one color for their whole post, then guess what! You, a new member, have very little say as to rather or not someone can pick his/her own color.

>new
I wouldn’t be so sure about that, pal.
I see you’re a firm believer in social stratification by the number of oranges eaten. Why would I be lesser than anyone else? Is this a community or an organization?
Also, «you shall not attempt to force people to give more importance or priority to your messages by (…) having shiny emblems next to your massive, throbbing post count».

> Um… Where in the rules say you’re not allowed to swear?

0/10

> How about this…
> NO.

If you like customization so much, why such a negative opinion towards an optional, normally off, option? I don’t understand.
