I myself, am not colorblind. However, a few of my friends are. They have different problems leading from not being able to read some of the text, to the reticle being near invisible to them. Not only this, but it causes an over all strain on one friend in particular’s eyes.
Would it not be a good idea to add some sort of option to enable a colorblind mode? I’ve seen a few games out that have this, and I believe it would be a great addition to the Halo series. I remember on the Bungie forums someone suggested this for Reach, though sadly it never happened.
There’s no reason people with disabilities should have a worse gaming experience than others especially since this would be so easy to fix with an option menu " turn colorblind mode on/off". I know some other fps did this but can’t remember which one at the moment.
PS: Its Call Of Duty 3 that’s putting out ColorBlind options too. Something I’m more than happy and willing to steal from Call Of Duty and place directly into Halo.
I think the best way to do it would be to have some kind of color/brightness adjustment for different elements on the screen. This would allow people with different types of colorblindness to fine-tune things to match their vision, and it could also serve as an interesting customization even for non-colorblind players (i.e. recoloring the HUD). Win-win for everybody.
> The Franchise Development Director is colorblind, so he may be sympathetic to your plea.
Honestly, I did not know this. At least this may increase the chances of this setting making it in. It’s just a hassle that I’m restricted to only a few maps when playing with my friends due to their colorblindness. It also kind of takes a lot of the experience from them.
I’m shocked that this feature isn’t in many more of the games available to the public.
If I’m correct roughly 10% of the male population has some form of trouble distinguishing between colors. I’ve also read that roughly 300 million people in the world are colorblind. It is supposedly the most common genetic defect amongst people.
Seems like something developers in general should at least consider with their games.
