Hi all. I’d like to petition 343 to add a colorblind mode into Halo 4. It wouldn’t be difficult to do, just switch the color of the red team to one of the myriad other colors that aren’t red or green (or brown). I’ve got red/green colorblindness, and that causes shades of red and green to appear very similar (and to blend into brown backgrounds (Christmas is a very boring holiday, color-wise)). With almost all the multiplayer maps so far being on (what appears to me) a red/orange color set, or heavy in browns and greens, it really sets me (and probably upwards of 5% of men who play this game) at a distinct disadvantage when I’m on the blue team.
Again, nothing crazy, just switch the red skin color for something else, like yellow. That would be fantastic.
I support this. Many modern games have an option for color-blind players, I don’t see why Halo doesn’t. I hope they patch this for you dude, this should be one of their top priorities.
It doesn’t seem like a very hard thing to add either.
As someone who is colorblind, I find the idea of changing the enemy team’s colors a bit bizarre. I usually don’t immediately notice what color enemies are, but I do know that if there isn’t a call sign over a player’s head, I should probably shoot them.
I could personally use some contrast modification, though. The game is so bright and colorful that some things are just hard to see. The radar, for example, is almost impossible for me to see things on. The background of it is very transparent, and the dots on it lack the same boldness that Halo 3 and Reach had.
I fully support this as well. I’m actually the opposite though. In my case I have blue/green confusion, so whenever I’m on the red team I’m all but useless. Being able to switch the team colors to something else on the spectrum would be a huge relief.
Im red green color blind, i think it affects 14% of men actually. I wouldnt mind this option, but I think I can survive without it since its Red v Blue
I play on a monitor (2 ms response time! Makes me feel like a pro!!), and I’ve gone through all the settings and can’t find anything to alter the color balance. There are options for gamma, contrast, and the like, but nothing to change how much or how little of one color or another there are. I’ve even thought of trying to play with all greens removed from my color set (or reds) just to see if it’s an improvement, but alas, the option isn’t there for me.
As for the nameplate, yeah, that’s a dead giveaway as to who is on my team and who isn’t. The issue is when someone isn’t directly in my reticle for their nameplate to appear (e.g., when I’m scanning an area or moving from place to place). Take Solace for instance (pretty sure that’s it- has two bases, one of them rocks and dirt covered in grass, with a big beam of light/lift in the middle). If I’m moving through the middle or the side towards the grass-covered base and I’m on the blue team, anyone crouching (or even standing) on the red team who isn’t directly in my reticle will basically be semi-camo to me and will get the jump on me. When they’re moving it’s less of an issue, but it’s still somewhat problematic.
And yeah, it’d be nice to have the option to set the colors for the other team, so that you can tailor it to your preferences depending on what type of colorblindness you have.
On a somewhat related note, my best friend pities me because I’ll never get to experience Ferrari Red the way he does. Is it really that great?
Excuse me, but I seem to remember that there WAS a color blind mode prior to release?? We saw pictures of BTB and Dominion matches with orange vs. purple or green vs. yellow players all the time!!! I guess it got scrapped along with the most awesome emblems. We saw those pre-release too.
