Color/Outline Dislikes

Trying to think of words to describe the color/outlines that are around the spartans… I just do not see why this was necessary to do. There is a lot going on already and I think the outlining is really throwing me for a loop.

  • Curious as to why you added this feature? Honestly, this was not something after putting DAYs into halo 5 was an issue…?

Another comment, there seems to be too many ‘items’ on the maps I played… Like, several different weapons, several different equipment features. A lot going on - I think this could change after I get a feel for it!!

Final comment, a feature that irks me and I might get used to it at some point… You have to drop a piece of equipment in order to pick up invis? Grinds my gears!!

Thanks

I find it’s less that there are more items to pick up, and more that they are more in your face. Everything spawns on a special pad or locker with glowing effects, which makes them feel like shines you need to obtain.

Whereas when grenades and weapons just spawn on the ground, they are easier to ignore if you don’t really care about a particular one.

As for the outlines, I’d like enemy outlines disabled while friendly ones are kept. I think having friendlies high lighted at all times is plenty to make it clear who’s a friend or foe. And I do like the feature where you can see the full-body outline of teammates through walls.

I lowkey saw an enemy in BLUE armor color but couldn’t tell he was enemy until he started shooting at me…

I agree with your first thought! Good point.

I also think the outlining potentially makes the skill gap less… Easier to see opponents in general. Appreciate the thoughts!

343 created new problems for something that was never broken in the first place.

im not married to red vs blue but literally all they have to do is get rid of outlines all together and put a Spartan tag (ex: S76) above teammate heads like in previous games.

Players with no tag would obviously be enemies just like in past games.

Well for players to know the teams they have to some guide of indicator… but yes it does not need to be red vs blue

If 343 is trying to promote the uniqueness of each spartan, let that be shown in rumble pit like it was historically!

YES!

why cant we just be red and blue players, this outline crap is annoying, I cranked the outline to the max and now players just glow. just make one team solid RED and solid BLUE, done.

I would probably prefer red vs blue to stay and instead have customization like rocket league, however I don’t think RVB is necessary. I admit in past halos I frankly don’t truly notice the armor colors all that much. I definitely never made conscious decisions in past halos where say if I’m blue and I see a red guy I think “oh he’s red, shoot, he’s blue don’t shoot”.

the friendly emblem/Spartan number above teammates heads is the best way imo. I’d wager if an actual study was done, those overhead tags would show as being far more effective than armor colors.

oh also on another note, the current highlights and shield effects are just horrible to look at too

Could not agree more on this.

The outlines are horrible, I don’t need the game to hold my hand and tell me where my teammates are, where weapons are, where pads are, where grenades are and where vehicles are, it’s so off putting and ruins immersion.

How don’t you when you can team kill, and you’re on a team? You have to know what color you are. I must not understand, but what do you think then? “oh he’s red, shoot, he’s blue don’t shoot” is normal thought process.

I am here to agree with the opinions in this thread! The appearance of the armor upon taking damage is much too vibrant and looks very out of place while the outlines of enemies makes target acquisition too easy and encourages a playstyle of sitting on opposite sides of the map while taking pot shots at distant enemies who can be too easily noticed by their outlines.

Glad everyone here agrees! Curious to hear of any counterarguments - surely there has to be some.

Totally agree with this point, saw it in a HiddenXperia video (I’m not even a fan of his but this solution makes a ton of sense). I feel like, especially now that you can ping locations, the enemy outline makes it EXTREMELY easy to spot, ping, and get kills cross-map if you get the tiniest glimpse of an enemy - and I think it’s due to how glowy the outlines actually are.

Making it more of a “Friend” highlighting system makes a lot more sense to me and still supports the colorblind players (I’m pretty sure?)

Also, can’t help but feel like the outlines are so bright and glowing that it obscures the custom armors (of friends and allies both)… which was the other reason for bringing this system in? The brightness/glow completely defeat the purpose, IMO.

Yes…I hate it :frowning: I miss red vs. blue already.

I understand they want to sell colors and armor customization but I hate seeing enemies “glow” with outlines. As far as colorblindness there should be name tags for teammates only or some kind of icons above heads or some other thing. This glowy stuff is too much.
