Almost EVERY Forge I’ve played with has teched to Grizzlies and Almost EVERY Colony player I’ve played with seems like they have no idea how to play this game.
Forge players will hole up at 2 bases, sit there and research and horde supplies and then finally get grizz out at like 10-15 minutes. Meanwhile, I’m attacking an enemies base and getting pushed back:expressionless:. What really annoys me with Forge players is that they only ever make 3 or 4 and say “…this is a good enough army:smirk:” and when they inevitably lose the battle, they just…keep…on…building…grizzlies:sob:. They NEVER switch off and build something different. Why would you keep massing an expensive unit if you’ve seen time and time again that it’s getting you nowhere:expressionless:?
As for Colony players, I just don’t know… I’ve played like 50 games since he dropped and have had a Colony player in every game except for 2 and have only seen 4 decent ones. Idk why they don’t rush because Goliaths are only stopped by Flamers and Suicide Grunts early game. I’d rather have a teammate rush than sit there with an 36/80 pop army 10 minutes into the game.
Am I just giving too early of a critique on Colony players or does anyone else see where I’m coming from?

I’ve used both Colony and Forge and never use them in the same ways you mentioned.
The great thing about Halo Wars 2 and almost any RTS game is that you can come up with so many different strategies to go about playing during a match.
Grouping ALL Forge and Colony players into this stereotype you’ve created just because you had a few bad teammates is completely unfair to anyone that plays those characters properly with their own strategies.
With Colony, I already have several working strategies and have yet to lose a match with them.

I’ve had anywhere from 40-60 Colony teammates and only 2 have been any good i.e. had a full 80 pop army 5-8 minutes in. That’s really all I ask for. Just get a full army out by 8 minutes and I’ll consider you decent. The bar is set low and guys still can’t do that.
Sometimes I question whether guys are working with the enemy team because it makes no sense…
I actually prefer Anders as a teammate because at least I can depend on her to get Sentinels out.

If you judge a team mate based on their ability to get a full population out, then you aren’t playing at a high level. No high level players will wait for full population before they decide to fire the first shot.

I know. I was saying that I set low standards for my teammates in order for us to win. I attack earlier than that and my team can tag along if need be.

I personally consider a team mate good if 1) they have a mic and talk and 2) they ask what you are doing and make something to compliment that.
I’m so disappointed in colony. I played 2 matches today, total units built was around 100. Killed about 40. Absolutely horrible numbers. Goliaths die vs basically every troop. Even upgraded to T3, they are so slow and just get slaughtered. Skitterers feel so useless for how much they cost. I’d almost rather build 2 grunts vs 1 skitterer. Hunter captain, so slow it hurts. He can’t retreat. Doesn’t do insane damage. Leader powers, just nothing offensive except for 1 power really. Living barrier, eventually dies off. The healing drones is nice. Dropping in 2 veteran goliaths, basically get annhilated. Idk, overall just feel very underpowered.

Goliath are great anti building early on, just 1 or 2 backing up a rush can cause havoc if used well. Late game the 2 vet Goliath make a nice insta drop for extra base damage and their charge can do a lot of damage when aimed into a crowd. Skitterers make your units stronger, whats not to like? You don’t have to put them on every unit but for certain high value units the extra health and firepower is a huge boon. Hunter Captain is painfully slow but his strength lies in defending and if you get HC and his 2 Skitterers promoted they become nearly unstoppable. Living barrier can block enemies from retreating or let you retreat safely, it’s not rally supposed to be a permanent defence.

But living barrier doesn’t stop planes. Goliaths early game are useless because the opponent can produce 3 or 4x the units you can early. Flamethrowers destroy and wreck goliaths. Tanks wreck them. Planes wreck them. Basically everything. I had about 6 or 7 of them, fully upgraded, and they got destroyed. Idk, I just feel so underwhelmed by them. I have played maybe 10-15 matches as Colony and I just have terrible build vs kill numbers. I feel the banished units are inferior vs unsc. I prefer Cyclops over hunters. Kodiaks are awesome. Flamethrowers are great. Warthogs are superior vs mauraders. I just don’t like the banished units, but I want too!

I use my Goliath as a front line shock unit then a building destroyer. Just one Goliath can help soften a group with it’s charge and then be micro’d onto hitting base structures. Later i wouldn’t bother building them much as they are only needed in small numbers. The Goliath drop is more than enough to wreak havoc behind a base whilst your army fights at the front.
As for UNSC being Superior to the Banished, i think it’s a preference thing. UNSC tend to have glass cannons for units, they all hit hard but are easily killed by their counters and larger forces. The Banished tend to have the superior health and need to take a more measured approach. Use that health (and early Engi’s) to keep expensive units alive so that they gain promotions, a veteran army is exceptionally strong.
Neither of those leaders are bad…it’s more of the player that uses them. I can’t say much for Forge other than he is incredibly flexible from both an offensive and defensive standpoint. I’ve met teammates and enemies who dominate with him.
As for Colony, I figure that he’s still relatively new and people are trying to figure out what works best for him.

I know it going to suck to hear this but, this is what you get when you solo queue. No mic, no strats, no fun. Go on the Halo Wars 2 game hub and go to the looking for group, ask for people with microphones. Even if you get a low level player, you can still tell them what to do to compliment your team and also improve the quality of the game for all.
