Granted, everyone is having issues currently with matchmaking, but I am concerned that my internet connection through my university is also having an effect on the matchmaking process and the ability to find a game. I have been searching for games quite regularly since the release and I have not even been matched with a single person in all of the times I have tried. I know at the release of Destiny there were issues with the online gameplay through College/University connections, and I am wondering if MCC is having some of the same issues as well? If any of you are/aren’t experiencing issues with this as well, please let me know. I’d be rather upset to find out that even after everything gets working again, I am still going to have issues playing matchmaking online.
Your uni network may be messing with it but honestly, it’s going to be impossible to tell because it’s completely -Yoinked!- for everybody at the moment, and has been since launch.
Normally Colleges/Universitys block certain ports to stop people from, torrenting, playing particular games, etc.
It may be your console has been blocked.
Unless you can play other online games on your console.
I dunno then. More likely a port issue.
Normally if you give your IT Department your console’s MAC address they’ll unblock it.
But yeah, with what Shadow mentioned, anything’s fair game at the moment.
The problem I am having is trying to join other players in custom game lobbies. It’s 100% impossible on college internet, but at home on my own internet, I’m able to join other players immediately.
Hi there yes I would like to mention that I’m also having sever connecting issue with my campus internet. Does you campus use a firewall known as Resnet? Mine uses that and I believe that is what blocks me from connecting to game. After searching for a match for a long time, I may get into one but it doesn’t happen often.
My NAT is moderate and can’t be set to Open. When I went back home for Thanksgiving, I was able to set my home internet to Open and I was finding matching with ease. No problems. So that’s why I believe it is strictly a college internet issue that MCC is experiencing. 343 please do something to correct this issue. I know Bungie was having problem with Destiny and college internet when it first released but they were able to fix it. 343 I know you can too.
My only guess is that once dedicated servers are fully online, we hopefully should be able to connect without the Resnet/campus internet blocking us. NAT type doesn’t matter for dedicated servers.
YES.
I am having these issues as well. Everything is terrible when I am at college attempting to play. Hardly anything in MCC runs okay, most everything is like pulling teeth. I literally cannot find matches, no matter what playlist.
However, when I was home for Thanksgiving, I had no problems at all and could find matches very easily.
343i seriously needs to address this issue because I would assume that a large part of the gaming community does have to deal with campus connections.
Any sound advice/updates on this situation would be lovely.
college internet blocks most ports, so good luck doing much of anything without getting these ports opened

I wouldn’t say everyone. Me and a few buddies last night played btb and had no problems finding games.
Greetings,
I work in tech support at a university here in Texas and we have just been notified of the issue with Halo:MCC and we are starting work to try to resolve it.
The issue we had with Destiny was not based on firewalls or blocked ports. It was due to Destiny using a P2P system for the operation of its game. P2P traffic is severely limited on our campus network due to constant notifications of illegal file sharing.
We were able to configure our packet inspection software to tell the difference between the legitimate traffic of Destiny vs. illegal file sharing. I don’t know if the issue with Halo:MCC is the same situation.
I’m telling you this so that you know the problem and solution on your campus may be due to numerous factors - firewalls blocking ports, limited P2P connectivity, limited bandwidth, etc.
Understand that most tech departments on campus are not going to be very interested in helping you with this as it has no bearing on academics or university administration.
Our feeling here is that it is not unreasonable for students to expect a reliable internet connection for their various hobbies and interests. Try to approach it from that angle. Talk with your student organizations to get them to appeal to the IT department.
Good luck.
