Edit: What would everybody like for there to be in the collector’s edition of the game? Personally, I really enjoyed the journal from Reach and the Helmet from 3. Right now, it’s a little hard to decide since there’s not much known about the game or what would be in it. So far, I’m thinking a replica Halo ring, a statue like Halo 5 with Master Chief and Cortana, or something like dossiers on all of the major characters.
Original post: I’m assuming there’s going to be a collector’s edition of the game. Two things concern me: 1) I’m not able to find one because, as is pretty common these days, scalpers snipe all of the pre-orders and 2) I do manage to get one and then it’s discounted 50% after only a month like what happened with Halo 5.
So, wait a month after release and see what happens. Collector’s editions aren’t as exciting to consumers as they once were since so many gamers prefer to simply buy digitally (a concept I’m not a fan of).
You have to choose what’s more important: getting the collectors edition at all or getting it cheap. If option 1 is your greatest concern then you’ll just have to order it as soon as it’s available, perhaps even preorder. If option 2 is your greatest concern then it’s a toss up, because if you wait it could become cheaper or more expensive. Generally collectors editions become more expensive as time goes on, but as you said, Halo 5 went the opposite way.
I wouldnt worry too much. From where I am from anyways, the days of games being sold out & midnight releases are a thing of the past. I dont see you having a problem. Especially if they offer it online, then you will have instant access to it. Assuming they do.
The problem is that I like to buy physical collector’s editions for the stuff I can put on display in my game room and Halo usually had really nice stuff bundled, my favorite being Halo Reach. But, there’s always been a trend with scalpers buying up all of the good stuff and then selling it at crazy prices, as they do. Whereas with Halo 5, I pre-ordered it and then it dropped to half of its price, which pretty BS to all of the fans, myself included, that paid full price. So, part of me wants there to be a way for me to pre-pre-order the game to avoid scalpers and a smaller part wants a price match guarantee if what happened with 5 happens again, but that seems very unlikely.

Is it? Things depreciate in value, and prices are determined by supply vs demand. Games regularly go down in price by the time they’ve been out a year. And if the collector’s edition of Halo 5 went down in price, it means that the demand was too low to justify the supply they had, so they had to do something to offload the remainder. That’s business 101. My guess is that 343i will make less of the collector’s editions this time around since they weren’t that popular last time.

You’ll likely get that chance when the game becomes available for pre-order. Many games with physical collector’s editions make those editions available via pre-order up until supply runs out. Once a launch date is announced, keep a close eye on retail listings to see if a collector’s edition comes up for grabs. You have to be vigilant if you really want it; that’s the best way to guarantee yourself one.

Yeah that won’t happen. There is no precedent for earlier adopters getting back some of the money they spent on something after that item depreciates in value. If that was something that happens then Bungie owes me like $100 for Destiny 1 and all that DLC I bought up front. You either have to order early at full price to guarantee you’ll get it, or roll the dice on whether they’ll end up with leftover collector’s editions that drop in price later on (there’s a risk that won’t happen, though, and you could end up having to buy from a scalper at that point).

You hate the concept of digitally buying??
Why. It’s amazing I get to play my halo as soon as possible

I understand business, still doesn’t mean it doesn’t suck when a person spends $250 only for it to drop to $100 after only a month.
Some people don’t have the ability to stay on top of these things because of work/school/etc. Twice now I’ve only barely managed to get collector’s editions right before cut off because all of the supply had been sold through within a few hours of announcement.
My opinion on Bungie is that they’re trying to make terrible decisions so that Activision will let them out of their contract early before they make another 8 games.

With Halo 5, they actually released the collector’s edition of the game five days early because it came with a digital code, so people were able to pre-download it and still enjoy all of their physical stuff.
I would credit the person on this forum that came up with the idea of having a statue of the “installation” itself, but I don’t feel like going through a month+ of posts.
As for the price drop of H5, I feel that not having a physical disk, and 343i’s backtracking during that time left a bad taste in people’s mouths.
I understand that they were under pressure to get the game out, and something happened during the manufacturing process or they didn’t have enough time after “going gold” to produce the disks needed.
The point of this was that if there is a digital only collectors edition, I hope that it helps you decide on buying or not.
Though, now there has been a precedent in digital downloads from other publishers, it could go either way.

Yeah, pre-orders dont usually vanish in my expereince. Most of the limited/collectors editions I saw at Gamestop were still avalible months later.
These collector’s editions are becoming ridiculous. If they’re going to do one for Infinite (and of course they are), I’d prefer something simple like Halo 2 or 4’s with a little memento like Cortana’s chip or something. With a $300 collector’s edition plus the inevitable Scarlett SKU and separate controllers and headsets, they may as well just ask people to buy ten copies of the game.
