In the first of a new series of blogs written here on Halo Waypoint, Josh Holmes went into detail about the aspect of the co-op campaign in Halo 5 seen here.
One thing I noticed while reading it and am very excited to hear is that skulls will be returning in-game.
> Any achievements, collectibles or skulls unlocked during a co-op session are granted to all of the players present at that time.
Since Halo 3 (with the exception of H:CEA) skulls have gone from being something you’d have to search around the level and sometimes even outside of the map to find, to just a scoring system already unlocked.
Personally I’m really excited to see skulls return as a collectible in the game. Maybe we could even expect to see an armor set that unlocks after collecting all the skulls as a nod back to hayabusa armor.
So what do you guys think of this news? Are you excited to have to go through the campaign searching for these skulls, or would you rather just have them all unlocked from the get go?
So cool! I am expecting those other ‘collectables’ to be Toys from H2A? Maybe a evolution on those?
Well if skulls are back…I am curious if, and how the terminals will be in Halo 5. Halo 3 focused on Iso-Didact and the Librarian. In CEA they focused on 343gs. Halo 4 focused on the Ur-Didact and ancient humanity. And Halo 2A focused on the Arbiter and covenant.
I’m guessing 5 will focus on Locke? Or Blue team maybe?

It would be quite cool if we had Skulls, terminals and other collectibles to find. Only H2A had that many collectibles and for me personally, it was the most fun going around looking for everything.
Hunting for skulls! That is really something to look forward to.

I doubt they’ll focus on Blue Team because of the Fall Of Reach animated series which is already doing that; and Nightfall was designed to introduce Locke unless they show how he became a Spartan though it doesn’t take an enormous leap to make a pretty good guess.
Nice I guess you will be able to get them all solo, but it would be kind of cool if some of the skulls required all four players to work together to access them.

I wonder if you’re AI teammates will help and interact with any collectibles you find?

Would be funny if you have to stack all of the characters on top of each other and execute intricate jumps lol
Yes! Hunt the skulls! Skulls for the skull throne!
I am now getting hyped again!

The animated series is exclusive to the LE however so not everyone will be able to watch it convienently (as in, without waiting for someone to copy pasta it on to youtube.)
And nightfall was terrible. There’s still plenty we could see regarding Locke’s background.
This is awesome news! Yay
This is -Yoinking!- great!!!
I’m always so split about looking for them myself or just looking up guides. I love exploring the levels, but it can get frustrating lol.
Great news. I would love to see unlockable armor, similar to the Hayabusa. Collecting skulls is a classic element of Halo, and adds alot of fun to the game.

With the bigger levels, it may be even more fun!
So awesome! I hope some have been hidden in places that require co-op play, it would suit halo 5s new squad play

It would be pretty cool if we got an armor set for collecting all the skulls. Maybe we could even see Hayabusa return into Halo 5?
This is great news! I’m excited to hunt skulls in Halo 5!!!
