“How was your date with the Admiral’s wife?” Can someone explain that joke from chapter 1?

Haven’t read the book but It sounds like he got an admirals wife to cheat on him.

Like I said I haven’t read the book but the joke is pretty self explanatory.

Sykes said it to Keyes as they exited Slipspace and Keyes was coughing and shivering.

Keyes isn’t one who would have an affair. I’m guessing he was just screwing with him.

EDIT: It just hit me, he was screwing with him. Sorry, I’m really tired and about to go to bed or else I would have got this earlier. Sykes is calling the cryotube the “Admiral’s Wife”. Apparently the aforementioned Admiral’s wife is a real cold hearted -Yoink-. The cryotube is also cold and painful. Ergo, he is comparing Keyes’ stay in the cryotube with the Admiral’s Wife.

Yes, UNSC personnel refer to cryopods as “the admiral’s wife” among other things. You know military humor.
