Cole Protocal

What is the Ghost Protocol, I have been rereading the Halo Fall of Reach book and it is hard to understand

I think you’re talking about “Cole Protocol”? It’s a UNSC directive to deny the Covenant any information of Earth’s location by all means necessary. I don’t see anything that says “Ghost Protocol” on Halopedia.

Yeah thts my bad

In short, the Cole Protocol was developed by Admiral Preston J Cole as a means of denying the Covenant access to human worlds that had not yet been discovered by them.

To expand a bit, Cole mandated this strategy in his own fleet, but it was not accepted as an enforced military doctrine across the UNSC until a little later. It requires any ship fleeing a Covenant attack to make a random slip space jump before making an additional jump toward a human colony or outpost. Additionally, any navigational data must be purged if a ship is about to be boarded, and the AI on board must be deactivated (killed) so that no sensitive data will fall into Covenant hands.

This protocol was credited with extending humanity’s survival in the Covenant War since the Covies couldn’t easily track human ships back to additional colonies.

You should link to Halopedia instead of the wiki, as it is far less likely to have the wrong information, fanon information, and poorly written articles.

https://www.halopedia.org/Cole_ProtocolOther than that, what Happyplace said. Admiral Preston Cole came up with it as a way to ensure the safety of human colonies and Earth by having UNSC ships make random Slipspace (hyperspace/faster than light travel, if you’re not sure what that is either) jumps away from human inhabited systems, and that ships wipe their onboard computers of all information that could lead them to human colonies.

It was effective at prolonging the war, but the Covenant would also use small spy probes that would attach to UNSC ships and send back navigational data from wherever the ships jumped, even if that ship wasn’t enacting the Cole Protocol.

Explained in depth by other users, and Halopedia. But essentially, like any SOP for sensitive data, it’s an asset denial directive. Random Slipspace jump coords on a non-Earth trajectory so the Covenant could not follow and learn Earth’s location. Censure and destruction beyond retrieval of all onboard navigation data. So on and so forth.

“All I want to know is, did we lose them?”

Cortana: “I think we both know the answer to that.”

Couldn’t resist. :3
