Cold Feet First - A Machinima Short

I’ve been -Yoink!- the mess out of this. If nothing else than for the fact that this is the first machinima I’ve ever made.

I’d wanted to work on a machinima for years, and the XBox One tech finally allows me to do that here with Halo 5. So, that’s exactly what I did. I wanted to start working on my voice-over skills as well, so hey. Two-for-one deal, eh? Anyway, enough jibber-jabber. Here’s the first fruit of this project, “Cold Feet First”.

Very good work! You’re voice acting was my favorite aspect about your machinima! Your opening title intro was good except your typewriter sound effects didn’t match up with the letters as they appear which was a little distracting. Also you have moments when your character is standing at the edge and you have some camera movements that track with your character but some of them seem to be unjustified such as they move with him but then move up or down to correct a bad angle which was distracting. Your shots where the camera stayed in one place seemed to be your strongest. Also I liked that it pulled me in as it went along but I feel it didn’t do enough to have me watch the next episode, mainly because it was to short and you have him looking at different things but as an audience member, I wanted to see what he was looking at.

Love seeing more Machinimas! Good luck on the next episode!

Thank you for your input!

This was mostly done by the seat of my pants, so I definitely understand what you’re getting at. Was wanting to experiment with different things, which is the reason for the brevity. Forever a work in progress, am I right?

Unfortunately, I didn’t have much to work with in the way of what he was looking at beyond the crashed Pelican on Empire. lol. Hopefully in the next episode, though, I’ll start addressing some of these things and take more time to develop a more structured script and footage layout.

Anyhow, again thank you for your response. I truly appreciate your opinion, and I hope to improve upon them in the next episode.

It’s no problem! All art is a work in progress in my opinion. As a solution to your problem with him looking at various objects that simply are not there is to use elements from other maps or places and cut to them instead. It’s called gaze/look which is that your audience unconsciously wants to look at whatever your character is looking at. And with clever editing and shot placement, you can have fool the audience in thinking that what he/she is looking at, is actually there in the space of the character. When in reality, it’s not!

Cinema is illusion and you are the magician!
