coIdFUSI0N's Halo 4 v2

Sprint. Slide. Thrust Jump.

These are Chief’s base abilities. Everyone spawns able to perform these 3 maneuvers. There are no loadouts.

Sprint functions as it did in Reach.

Crouching while Sprinting will cause your Spartan to Slide a short distance.

Thurst Pack is used to perform a higher jump. Press A to jump, while in the air press A again to Thrust Jump and gain a little extra height.

Sprinting, Sliding or Thrust Jumping all drain the same meter.

Sprint drains the meter gradually.

A Slide immediately drains one quarter of the meter.

A Thrust Jump immediately drains one half of the meter.

Equipment

Equipment is picked up from the map but recharges like armor abilities do.

Gravity Boots - Allows the player to run vertically up walls. Jumping while running up a wall will cause your Spartan to push off, flip and land feet first on the ground.

Nano Whip- A whip made of nanites that, if targeted and fired at an enemy, will pull him towards you without damaging him.

Deployable Shield - Similar to Deployable Cover but is held by the player instead of sitting on the ground. Once deployed the player cannot walk, only turn 90 degrees left or right and aim. Meleeing with the deployable cover knocks enemies back a few feet.

/Equipment

Thrust Pack can be used as a double jump while in gravity but functions as a full fledged Jetpack in zero gravity environments. Using this concept map designers will know what areas a Jetpack will be used in and can design those areas accordingly.

Elite Base Abilities

Elites can Evade. Evading while in the air will cause your Elite to do a front flip, back flip or side flip depending on the direction of the stick. Elites also have Thrust Pack.

I LIKE THE BASE STUFF BUT THE EQUIPMENT IDES I HATE. Equipment shoundt recharge one time use and then it respawns after like 2 minutes.

No.

Interesting but way to outer space…

Physics seems legit, but the equipment idea I dont like too much. Or mentioning elites. For the time being, we still have no idea if they’ll even be in 4.

I don’t want any of that in Halo 4…

The slide concept maybe for better strafing, but all else I disagree with, including sprint.

No equipments.

Stopped reading at “sprint”. Halo is an arena shooter, for movement all it needs is a fast base speed, high jump height, and little to no movement acceleration to make strafing possible.

> Halo is an arena shooter

False.

> > Halo is an arena shooter
>
> False.

What would you classify it as then?

You make some good points.

I too think that Sprint for Spartans and Evade for Elites should be default, and other AA to be Equipment pickup items.

Never thought of sliding in Halo, but that would be really cool, be nice if you could prone as well.

Gravity Boots - Running up walls would be very interesting, and would change game play alot, but would be pretty cool as well.

I think REACH AA need to be back in Halo 4, but as Equipment, like Halo 3 (1 use item).

AS for your cover, we should be able to use the Jackals Energy Shield, I was surprise we could not do this in Halo 3, and more surprised that Halo REACH did not allow this. Many fans have wanted this.

I think Halo 4, needs to be more like Halo 3 than REACH. Dual Wielding needs to return and be as important as it was in Halo 2, Halo 3 Dual Wieldong was pointless as the weapons did 30% less damage, Why Bungie Why.

I think 343 know what we want, Bungie tried for REACH and although were successful, failed in other parts. Hopefully 343 can learn from this.

You can bring me a fish and I might not be able to tell you what kind of fish it is but I can tell you that it’s not a dog.

If I had to classify it I would say a tactical shooter with slightly faster movement, slightly higher jump, moderately longer kill times.

The reason I am not calling it an arena shooter with extremely slow movement, low jump height, and moderately fast kill times because Halo is closer to tactical than arena. If I put an ice cube in a glass and let it melt until there is only a fingernail of ice in a pool of water would you call it an ice cube or water?

i like the double jump thrust pack idea

Arena style FPS is centered around very fast gameplay that emphasises speed and using it along with the map to engage other players, usually on relatively small maps made to scale in varying directions. Typically arena style also relies more on multiple hits to kill the player, as opposed to the two or three shots to kill nature of most current tactical FPSs.

Halo and CoD (the first and second especially) are arena FPS hybrids.

Ho! Ho! Ho!
> Implying arena shooters aren’t tactical. Arena shooters are the most tactical type of FPSs you’ll ever get, that’s part of the reason why they have the largest skill-gap.

The defining features of arena shooters are:

  • Powerups that spawn on the map
  • Weapons that spawn on the map
  • Everyone spawns equal on the map
    And… that’s about it, really.

Halo fits into the category of arena shooters, though dumbed down for consoles, of course. Reach on the other hand… OP, I don’t like your ideas because I don’t want Reach 2.0. Simple as that.

“Tactical shooter” = noun

Tactical = adjective

The Arbiter using a Nano Whip to yank an enemy towards him right before jumping, front flipping, and impaling that enemy on his Energy Sword is something I would love to see in Halo.
