CoD ruining every other shooter.

I hate Call of Duty. I REALLY HATE IT NOW! Not because of me like Halo more. Not because of their stupid and repetitive multiplayer. I hate it for one reason and one reason only. IT’S RUINING OTHER SHOOTERS! Since Call of Duty is such a casual online competitive shooter where it is easy to kill people and takes almost little to no skill to play it, it has become popular. It has made alot of money and has gained alot of popularity. Now this is not enough for one to hate this game. It’s great that it’s doing well and people enjoy it. The problem is that since it has gotten so popular, other companies making online competitve shooters are starting to imitate it or change their game to be similar to it. THIS PISSES ME OFF! Halo was successful because of it’s unique gameplay, Gears of War revolutionized the cover system and is probably the best third person shooter ever. So here is a question. WHY ARE THESE COMPANIES TRYING TO TURN THEIR GREAT UNIQUE GAMES INTO ANOTHER CoD COPY!

If CoD ruins another one of these great games I will lose it. Im not saying Halo 4 is exactly CoD, but it is starting to slowly turn in that direction. We need to keep CoD out of other games. 343i and Epic Games…IGNORE THE CALL OF DUTY!

This is, I’m sorry, but a little childish. Blaming one game for the fall of a completely different game.

At one point in the past I did enjoy playing CoD. I think we can all say at one point or another we played it and enjoyed it. Infinity Ward and Activision, they made a unique game that appealed to millions. And that’s not something you come by often. Now I will admit, they milked that type of game formula until it was all dried up. I haven’t touched CoD in years.

But a blaming them for the “bad influence” you think it gave to 343, is solely 343’s fault. Why do you think they steered more in that direction? Because they thought it would appeal to a wider audience (which it did for about a week until Blops II came out) and make them more money.

CoD was original and is still original. But if other game companies try and copy that, that’s them being NOT original. So like I said, don’t play CoD. Blame the other game companies for trying to copy them just to make the extra buck.

I feel you bro. Game company’s try to compete with cod and copy them. Thus ruining them for the people that already play them. If you hadn’t noticed, 65% of the cod “community” are ignorant stereotypes that don’t try games because it looks like their game, but dismiss it as a clone.

CoD is just conglomerate of good ideas from other shooters (mostly from Halo). Apart for bring 60 frames per second for console online fps it really didn’t bring anything new to the genre. How can we say that other games are “too much CoD”?

Like with Halo in here: “sprint, JIP, loadouts, AA, ordnance… it’s too much CoD”. No, CoD didn’t invent sprint, or JIP, or loadouts. For sure it doesn’t have anything like AA or ordnance - these are modern Halo’s original ideas. Next CoD game will probably add something similar as well, since for mass, joyful gameplay these are fine.

I am probably a rare exception but I have hated CoD since i first played it.

On topic: It’s not CoD’s fault. It is the dev’s fault, they see the sucess that is CoD and they want to replicate it. What they fail to understand most of the time is if you copy CoD, nothing good comes of it. It is a tradition so to speak with gaming. Once one game becomes popular every dev wants to copy said game and attempt to ride on that game’s laurels. It happend when halo was king, and every game that tried it failed. And it is happening while CoD is king and what a surprise every game that tries it fails.

Yes CoD did not invent the features that other games are copying. But CoD for the most part made some of the features popular and it is a game people can relate too. And I wouldnt say CoD has any good ideas for the most part that game is complete and utter -Yoink-.

Wow childish…harsh man. I agree it’s 343i fault for trying to copy them, but the problem is that because all media depictions of shooters are Call of Duty. Im not saying CoD should have never existed…im saying that jumping aboard the CoD train seems to be a fad for companies. Halo 4 is slowly trying to go back to it’s roots with all these updates, but since everyone is trying to compete with CoD, companies are trying to take that formula.

Halo was first big multiplayer, but now 343i is trying to use CoD (a game influenced by halo) as part of the formula. I think game companies should ask OUR OPINION, THE CONSUMER’S OPINION, ON HOW THEY SHOULD CHANGE A GAME! 343i screwed themselves over on the first try and it will be hard for them to redeem themselves. All because CoD black ops and MW.

Im sorry if this sounds childish and irrational, but I think all gamers are tired of being ignored and expected to just go with the flow. We shouldn’t conform to the product, the product should conform to us, who the product is meant for.

In this day and age everything has to be easier and bring instant gratification. The sad truth is that there’s too many games on too many devices and consoles. If a game is too hard to get good at, there’s alot of gamers that will simply lose interest and move on, because the number of games seem to grow exponentially with time, and there’s so many choices, that companies like 343 or Microsoft HAVE to make the game easier, if only to keep them playing a little longer, or at least to make them like the game enough that they’ll buy the sequel. Of course its done at the expense of people like me who dearly miss my fistpumps when I see my 39 turn into 40 at H3.

Now for me, Halo is more than just a game. I’ve hardly played any other games since I started playing Halo two years ago. Started late, so I had alot of catching up to do. And I had like 5 Halo games to discover, my favorite is H3 without a doubt. To get to the point, Halo to me is a game that you cannot love just a little, you just fall in love with that game, and want to get better so bad.

In clear: Halo used to taste like top notch cuisine but now you can start to taste a little bit of fast food was tossed in there. It still tastes nice but, cheaper.

Still I play H4 on daily basis, like the direction the game is (slowly) moving, and have no choice but to hope for the best in the future.

People are blaming 343 for Halo 4…now we’re starting to blame CoD? Sheesh…

we knew cod has been influencing other games since mw2 came out.

i dont understand why people hate CoD so much. It seems to me that people are just hating it because everyone else is. I think its alright but its not the greatest. No need to hate something that much.

> People are blaming 343 for Halo 4…now we’re starting to blame CoD? Sheesh…

Hey man people gotta rage on something. I rage on CoD and others on 343i.

your argument is invalid why? Because COD 4 and Halo 3 competed for the online gaming and guess what Halo 3 win and no ones even spokes about COD. Now with Halo 4 everyone speaks about COD because…wait for it…this game is like COD  Halo is the only game which can face and win COD online but not like Halo 4 and his 30k population

No it wasn’t, Halo originally was Campaign focused, the multiplayer was a small side feature that over time became very popular. (Quickly though.)

> i dont understand why people hate CoD so much. It seems to me that people are just hating it because everyone else is. I think its alright but its not the greatest. No need to hate something that much.

As the OP of this topic had said:

“a casual online competitive shooter where it is easy to kill people and takes almost little to no skill to play it”

That’s the reason.

Personally I find COD an excellent series.

People playing all these games where you can take a dozen hits before dying, such as Halo…

When you switch to a game such as MW3 where a single headshot from most of the weapons can kill you, people have to learn actual survival tactics in order to do well.

Oh it’s such a shame that in some games you can’t go running around in the open, taking countless shots while dealing the same back. It’s called realism.

we cannot blame CoD.

we can blame in the other hand the casual players who tried other FPS and for being lazy guys or little -Yoinks!-, who don’t know how to learn and improve something with practice and time. (i mean compared to CoD, in Halo u need to learn a lot more)

let’s face it, how many times we have saw a guy saying
‘‘this FPS sucks, it’s not like CoD’’

example ‘‘Halo sucks it’s for noobs and not realistic’’ im 100% that CoD player, played halo, but then other skilled players owned him, a lot of times.

result: frustration.

solution: go to play something much but MUCH MORE EASY (CoD)

thats why CoD is ‘‘good for most people’’ u don’t need to be a genius or something to play it.

343 didn’t start the Halo be more like COD path.

Bungie did with REACH.

Halo 4 is much improved from REACH, but has taken another element from COD (PERKS).

It wouldn’t matter if Halo 4 was the perfect game, people would still complain.

If Halo 4 was more like Halo 3, with none of the COD stuff, then people who loved REACH would hate it.

Can’t please everyone.

343 is trying to make changes to Matchmaking to please people, but you can’t please everyone.

If Halo 5, was the best game in the world, and it suited everyone. People will still complain.

Alot of us, me included, say the Best Halo for Matchmaking was Halo 3.

But that still had alot of hate, BR Spread, equipment and many more.

But the one big thing was that it was an improvement on Halo 2. They kept the game mostly the same, no massive changes other than Equipment.

now compare Halo 3 to REACH. Massive changes.

Now compare REACH to Halo 4, most things kept the same but improved. but added PERKS and Ordnance. (these are pretty big changed for a Halo game).

I think Halo 4 is a big improvement over REACH, but see why people dislike alot of the features. I just accept it, and keep playing.

We can always play Halo 3, which I have been doming for the last week.

I mainly play Halo or Battlefield.

The last COD I played was MW2. I hated Activision milking the crap out of it.

If I could create my best game, it would be Battlefield crossed with Halo.

Massive maps, 200 players, and all Halo Vehicles from Halo Wars, books and other sources.

You spawn on to maps using Drop Pads. Now that would be great.

In my mind this would be the perfect game, the ultimate BTB.

The best of Halo and the best of Battlefield blended.

Will I ever see this, probably not.

It’s not that CoD is ruining FPS’s, it’s just that Devs are stupid enough to try to imitate it’s sales and longevity by implementing it’s features into their own game, in-which it doesn’t work and it ends up hurting that game more than it would have if they had just kept it like the way it was.

These are not the COD forums. If you want to talk about COD, go to their forums please.

Battlefield is my favorite shooter. Huge maps with teams constantly ducking it out is simply tons of fun. The knife a guy for a dog tag system is great. I hope Battlefield 4 doesn’t add Custom Classes, or I will be seriously disappointed.
