After hearing about this new system I did a bit of research (seeing as I dont know much about COD)
Found this though
So does anyone think its funny that Halo loses its ranking system when it was neck and neck with COD (back around right before the relase of Reach) and emulates COD, declines in popularity substantially, and now COD will take a feature popularized by halo during its hayday?
How do you see this working out? Do you think H4 will now get a ranking system like those of H2 or 3?
True skill is an Xbox system so that should be in place either way, the thing we really want is for the gameplay to be balanced and skill rewarding, then people will want to be competitive rather than sniper betrayals on hemorrhagic being a well known hazard in game.

It’s too early to tell what 343s plans are for ranked right now. It’s probably going to be the last piece of information they release to the fanbase. All we can do is compla, i mean speculate.
To answer your question about Halo 4 having ranked similar to H2 and H3. Then answer is no, there is no 1-50 skill based progression system. It’s been debunked by Frank O Connor, who isn’t a big fan of the Halo 3 version. So there is no way Halo 4 is getting a ranking system like that.
All we have to off is that there is plans for players itching for ranked of some sorts. That’s all we have so far.
I do find it funny COD has turned things around in that department but i wait to compare it whatever 343 has before moving forward.

I know no 1-50, im talking about a rnaking system based off wins and losses against progressively better opponents. Basically what H2-3 had. Since COD is going to get one I just wanted to see what people thought about the complete reversal.
Also I doubt H4 will get any kind of ranking system. Odds are it will be Reach style but without arena. I dont want to be dissapointed so thats just what im going with
Sure they call it true skill but as long as you can spawn with power weapons CoD will NOT have a competitive multiplayer scene. There’s a certain unbalance that makes this impossible, don’t let titles fool you.

there will be a skill based ranking system, they just haven’t announced them yet.
This may be off topic but, Cod isnt a competitive game. If a game that has 500k+ players and around 10k of them take it seriously it really isnt a competitive game.
As for the 1-50 ranking system not being in H4, You can thank the derankers and booters for that

When a prisoner escapes I blame the builders/designers of the jail and the prisoner equally. But its no reason to get rid of jails.

Pretty much this ^
It just seems they’re taking the lazy way out. Instead of improving the system, just get rid of it all together.
We all know the 1-50 system had its flaws, but it could be vastly improved. I can think of a bunch of ways just off the top of my head without even brainstorming.

Halo 4 has a confirmed competitive ranking system. All we know about it is that Frankie said they won’t talk about it until much closer to launch. Probably within 2 weeks of November 6th.

In this thread: OP confusing the visible ranking system for the behind the scenes matchmaking system.
Just because Bungie removed visible ranks (1-50) doesn’t mean they removed the system that finds a player’s skill and matches him with players similarly skilled to him (TrueSkill.)
Reach utilized TrueSkill and so will H4. Even in those “unranked” games.

and 99% of those matches are unbalanced.
Halo 3 ranked matches = balanced
Halo 3 socials = unbalanced
Reach’s system just felt like Halo 3 Socials. I have been in matches that were 50-4 Blowouts in Reach. I never had that happen once in the actuall Ranked matches from Halo 3 only the Socials. They are also filled with quitters.
I think people need to stop comparing Halo COD. #1 COD will probably never die (as much as i want it to) #2 Halo is a far different universe: Sorta like a 21st century Star Wars, Battlestar G, or Star Trek. NO matter what 343 does, they will still maintain fans, like me, that no matter how badly there game is executed (which I personally, from the looks of it, think that Halo 4 will not fall into that category)it will always have a large fan base. Halo has it’s own world from which COD doesn’t. Sure they may follow the same characters like sope and reznov, but honestly no one can compare to the Master Chief simply because he is original in nature, and well loved. #3 I have been hearing a lot of talk of “Oh Halo is copying COD Halo is copying COD” when it comes to multiplayer. REALLY where do you think COD got most of there ideas (they had to come from somewhere). Where would COD be if Halo 2 didn’t thrust our games into a vast online Console Gaming generation. If it wasn’t for Halo 2 I don’t think console online gaming would be the same.
With this said. Bottom line: You simply cannot compare the two games. The only thing you can compare is their sales, and the community they draw.
Which I think personally Halo draws a more authentic gaming community than COD.
COD simply gets most of the casual gamers. Which is impressive you think about how easily Halo keeps up, knowing IT ISN’T CROSS PLATFORM.

yes but, sometimes the prisoner breaks free from bondage, only to find a stronger set of chains.
People like higher stake games that is the reason why 1-50 in Halo 2+3 was so successful and games like SC are played religiously. Its like playing Poker with plastic chips versus playing Poker with real money. Adding that visible skill rank which is dependent on you performing well in the game is raising the stakes because you do not want to level down or get a worst division than you’re friends. The games are meaningful when there is something to lose or gain from winning/losing which in turn increases player enjoyment and the intensity of the games. I got bored with Reach’s Ranking system in a couple weeks because I realized I had nothing to lose I always was advancing in rank no matter what.
