CoD-Esque Camo Unlocks?

If there are two things CoD does right, it’s Marketing, and Weapon Camos.

I enjoy completing lengthy challenges to unlock colorful camos for weapons.
I would love to see it in Halo.

Here are some examples (Battle Rifle):

Kill 3,000 Flood with the BR. (Campaign)
Infected

Earn 3,000 Kills with the BR. (MM)
Splatter

Complete the Campaign in Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary on any difficulty.
CE

Complete the Campaign in Halo 3: ODST on Legendary difficulty.
Superintendent

Earn 1,000 Headshots with the BR. (MM)
Fetti

Exclusive to 343 Industries employees.
343

All credit goes to heheshabutie33 for all these awesome weapon skins.

Also, in CoD, once you’ve unlocked every Camo for a single weapon, you are rewarded with the special Gold Camo.
I’d like to see this in Halo as well.
I was thinking a blue projection skin that even flickers, making it the only live skin.
What do you guys think?

If we are to have weapon skins, they shouldn’t be tied to loadouts.

  1. We don’t know the extent of which Halo 5 will have loadouts.
  2. Some gametypes use forced loadouts, which disable skins.
  3. Skins could be applied to power weapons and other map pickups.

I’m also pretty picky on what skins I’d want to see in the game.

It could be be a different menu for all we know. In forced weapons there is a menu which asks what skin to use for each weapon.

people already complain about halo being to much like COD lets not get more things to be like it…

Wow because having skins unlocked by doing certain things is so game changing and was invented by COD. How would the fact that COD does this make anyone made because of it? All he meant by the title was that it would be unlocked in a similar way to how and many other games does it, just COD would be the most recognisable.

> people already complain about halo being to much like COD lets not get more things to be like it…

Honestly, who cares?

If haters would make rant threads about such an illegitimate “problem”, I say let them. They’re gonna do it anyway, and it isn’t that hard to shoot them down.

There’s nothing wrong with borrowing mechanics that work well with the current game. Such as theater, killcams, hit markers, skins, etc.

The problem is when we try to force things that run contrary to the core mechanics, just because everyone else is doing it.

Not only is this one of the things that CoD does that I hate but Halo already has a system like this, only it’s for armor not weapon skins. I’m not necessarily against weapon skins I just think that they are a waste of dev time and should only be added if they have nothing left to do in the development of the game.

This, exactly. I find it stupidly hilarious how the few things 343 could have and SHOULD have taken from CoD, like character customization, they didn’t and instead took what they absolutely should NOT have, like CoD’s gameplay.

I mean, Halo used to have better character customization than CoD, with things like its emblem creator. Now CoD surpassed that by a mile with its emblem creator they introduced in Black Ops. That thing is seriously awesome. Halo should have taken inspiration from those aspects of CoD, not from its gameplay.

CoD doesn’t have character customization…

The BO2 emblem maker you say?

  1. BO2 released after Halo 4.
  2. Yuck. That’s not an emblem maker, that’s a graffiti generator.

> people already complain about halo being to much like COD lets not get more things to be like it…

Completely illegitimate argument.
As long as it doesn’t contradict Halo’s core, anything’s game to implement.

Especially something purely aesthetic.

While I agree that most ‘emblems’ seen in BlackOps2 look terrible, I’ve definitely seen some truly incredible emblems.

I’ve made quite a few nice ones myself.

Definitely agree with you about Halo taking inspiration from the wrong places.

There’s been a discussion about possibly taking inspiration from BO2’s Emblems.
Most were worried about players being immature and creating ‘bad things’.
I can’t help but feel the same.
So most agreed that there would need to be a heavy punishment for doing so.

But ultimately, I’d like to see more creative Emblem possibilities in Halo.

It’s not like it takes a lot of time.
Shabutie created these by himself, and rather quickly at that.
And coming up with challenges is easy.

So I don’t think dev time is an issue.

I like it. But how would your skin get applied if we were to utilize equal starts again?

> I like it. But how would your skin get applied if we were to utilize equal starts again?

Like in gears of war 3 with a menu pre game which makes you select your favourite skin for each weapon.

CoD does have Charecter customization.
CoD Ghosts says ‘‘hi’’

And for the record, the original Black ops (released in 2010) had a Emblem maker.
